Spouse not on profile except in edit mode?

On the profile of Charles Canipe, his spouse does not show up on the profile, but if I click on Edit, the spouse appears on the right side (where it should). Why is this happening? If I click on the child, both parents show. A suggestion is related to this that I cannot figure out:

"421 Hidden marriage on public or open profiles Help (Difficulty: Intermediate)"

How is a marriage "hidden?"

Thanks!

On either spouse's Edit page, scroll down the right-hand side to the link to [edit marriage].  Uncheck the box that says "Check this to prevent...."

Ahhhh, I have never noticed that before. Since a PM has set it up that way, I’m going to leave it alone.

Thanks, Herbert!
Why is it even an error?

I have my mother's marriage to my father "hidden" deliberately.  So if it shows as a DBE, then the DBE is wrong.

Mel, You are 'not' seeing that suggestion because your parent's profiles are not Open and Public, which is when the Suggestion is created.

The checkbox on the Marriage page has the following explanation

' Check this to prevent Spouse 1 and Spouse 2 from being linked as husband/wife on each other's profiles. They will still be connected as spouses elsewhere. This option is offered for living people who are divorced. It's not for unmarried parents or non-traditional families.'

 Public

So, how are my parents not public?

They are not Open to Editing, so I think that is part of the check.

'Technical Stuff' section on Suggestion 421 says

It is checked on all marriages where both spouces have public or open privacy and have the hide marriage checked.

But PUBLIC is green locked.

Mel, I looked on the list for error 421 on this week's report, and all the ones with a green locked (Public) spouse have the other spouse open. There are none with both spouses as green locked (as are yours), which would explain why yours don't have the error.

Thank you, Margaret.  That explains it to my satisfaction. smiley

(Both my mother and I will return to haunt anyone who changes that setting to allow it to be visible.)

But, Linda, that is not what the suggestion says. It quite clearly says OR

"421 Hidden marriage on public or open profiles

Margaret's explanation makes a whole lot more sense.

I agree, but I think it is working as if it said  'public AND open privacy'  There are several suggestions that may need wording corrected.  Hopefully, Ales will verify the coding and explain this. I will send him a note, requesting clarification.

I checked the code and suggestion is created if one profile is opened and the other is opened or public. All marriages on private profiles are hidden by default.

I also updated the help page.
Thanks for checking Aleš.
