This Memorial Day I honor the life and sacrifice of this young man, Michael Mannina with the community.
Michael was a tall kid with a beautiful big smile. I sat next to him in English class. To me he was so very handsome and very funny. The girls gathered round him in the high school halls swooning over him.
After high school I lost touch with him. One Friday night in November 1968 the news people were reading the list of that week’s casualties in Vietnam. I was stunned to hear Michael’s name. He was one of several high school classmates killed in that war. So very sad.
Michael received the Purple Heart.
