While Georgia O'Keefe is the closest connection at 21 degrees, Lucy May Stanton (May 1875 - March 1931), American painter, is my Great-Aunt.  A painter of portraits (Joel Chandler Harris), landscapes, and still life, she was best known for her miniature portraits. Her works are in the collections of the US House of  Representatives, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Georgia Museum of Art, Emory University, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the National Portrait Gallery.

I am a 21st century artist; closest by 21 degrees to Georgia O’Keefe. Though not genetically related and  I doubt I’ll ever have such renown. More importantly, I do love painting and I encourage all you artists/arts supporters to keep your hearts in it for the simple joy beauty brings.

Of the artists on the list, I am most closely connected to Barbara Hepworth and Georgia O'Keefe, by 17 & 18 degrees. However, my mother was and artist, quite a good painter, but she didn't do it for a living, and wasn't famous. I have a first cousin who is a graphic artist, and has done work for magazines. My father's aunt [[Gardner-9342|Esther Ann (Gardner) Rainville (1911-1998)]] was a painter, and she started the Ann Arbor Street Fair. I, myself, am a potter, but am not famous.

Georgia O'Keefe is my 7th cousin once removed.  Our MRCA is an early immigrant from the Netherlands to New Amsterdam.

Maybe that's where I got my artistic talent.  Except that I don't seem to have any such talent.  There, I did Doug Laidlaw one better, by making an invalid conjecture which wouldn't even be true if talent and genetics worked that way :).
