It's time to meet another one of our wonderful WikiTreers. This week's member is Jutta Beer.
Jutta became a Wiki Genealogist in July of 2020. She is a Team Leader in the Wales Project, and also participates in our Categorization and England projects.
What are some of the surnames you are researching?
I'm mainly researching Armstrong, Sutton, Scheffauer, Beer, Johns and Adams at the moment.
What are some of the locations you are researching?
I've been digging around in Northumberland in the Haltwhistle and Hexham areas for my side of the family. My husband's side of the family are almost exclusively from North Devon. I am also doing local research in Carmarthenshire tracing the families of people who lived in our house.
When and how did you get interested in genealogy and family history?
About 15 years ago my mother gave me a handwritten family tree which had been compiled by a distant cousin during the 1970s. I didn't do much with it for a long time but about 4 years ago I felt I should get it online and my journey began.
Who's your favorite ancestor and why?
My great grandfather Fullerton George Gordon Armstrong. He was an inventor, engineer and entrepreneur. He built an aeroplane and flew it a short distance before crashing. He invented a shock absorber and built up a business in Beverley, Yorkshire. My plan is to make a freespace page about him and the business.
Tell us about a brick wall you hope to bust through.
My major brick wall has been the Austrian side of my family as I had no contact with them since my teens. Recently though I made contact again and now I am researching Austrian records - my German is rusty but the information on the church records is very detailed so well worth the effort.
What are some of your interests outside of genealogy?
I enjoy making 1/48 scale miniatures as well as reading crime fiction and sci-fi.
