What would it take to add citations to fact fields?

I'm really enjoying using WikiTree. There's much that I like here.

What I'm REALLY missing at WikiTree, however, is the ability to link citations to specific events. And in fact, I'm a bit concerned that the GEDCOM upload might be stripping these (but correct me if I'm wrong).

Whether creating a profile manually, or uploading a GEDCOM, it would be great if each fact was attached to a citation field, the entry of which would be converted into a <REF>...</REF> tag.

WeRelate.org does this quite nicely (and also has associated event fields for images and notes as well).  See as an example:

http://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:Thomasine_Frost_%281%29

(See the wikitree version for comparison here:)

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Frost-28

Is that wholly out of reach here?

Hi Jillaine,

The citations for specific facts are preserved in GEDCOM imports. As long as it's in the GEDCOM, it will be in the profile.

Footnoting database fields instead of just text would be more complex. It's not totally out of the question.

For now, the recommendation is to restate the fact in the biography and cite in there.
