data doctor suggestions on middle name usage for Dutch "doopnamen

+7 votes
Ï got a large number of suggestions to move the "doopnamen" from the middle name position to the first name. Almost all profiles I entered are of the following:

First name, baptist name 1, baptist name 2, last name

Is the convention for Dutch persons to have all names in the first name box and not use the middle name box?

Kind Regards,

Yes, indeed there are no middle names in the Netherlands, but there can be multiple given names, like 'doopnamen'. They should all go in the first name field. This is also common practice for Belgian and German names.

So the Proper First Name field contains all given names (voornamen / doopnamen) as recorded on the birth certificate. If a preferred name (roepnaam) is known, that can go in the Preferred Name.

To add: the middle name warning, which is quite misleading for Dutch profiles, can be disabled at My WikiTree > Settings > Miscellaneous Settings.
