I am new here and trying to help my husband find his family. "Ernest was born about 1905. He was the son of Henry Thibodaux and MInervia Mitchell. He passed away after 1979."

I am sure this is my husband's grandfather, who raised him.  (dob 2/8/1975 in Brooklyn New York) Ernest was 70 years old when my husband was born.  Ernest is buried in a military cemetery in Raleigh NC. He was born April 7, 1905, and passed 10/30/1998 in North Carolina.  he was the 1st private in the Army. He lived in Brooklyn New York in 1975. He was from Lousianna with Jamaican roots. He was known as "Champ" because he boxed in the army. He was a barber and very tall. I have pictures from 2021 of his grave with my husband and his Aunt. No one knows any relatives prior to when Ernest was about 55 years old. We are trying to find out if he has other  wives or children

WikiTree profile: Ernest Thibodaux

The US Black History Project works on profiles of those identifying as Black, or African American.  The sticker stating someone was "part of US Black Heritage" is just a visible way of identifying those people.

If you have information to add to Ernest's profile, I am certain Emma would be happy to hear from you.
The GU272 Descendants links on the profile suggest that Ernest was a descendant of one of the enslaved people who were sold by Georgetown University.
Hi Cindi, I got your private message and will respond there to see if we can get your husband connected if this is his grandfather.

Hello again. I am at a loss on how to proceed. sadly, Joseph Dustin  Rice, my husband passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident on 1/14/22.  In West Palm Beach Florida.  (the grandson ofhttps://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Thibodaux-60)

https://www.bellandclarkfh.com/obituary/Joseph-Rice

I did find out that Ernest was married to a woman in Louisiana Possibly named Margret prior to 1955. Ernest's daughter (my husband's Aunt "Cookie" whose name is Jean Miller (formerly Johnson by marriage), Her mother was Ernest's daughter was born in Brooklyn born in 1958.to  Anna May.McCoy, Jean, and her sister, I forget her name) were both born in Brooklyn New york. J. Jean and her husband Joseph Johnson (married in 1987)  had 4 kids, Naiemah, Dina, David, and Nina Johnson. I am in contact with Jean and Naiemah.  I am desperately looking for information on my husband's parents Evelyne Rice dob around 1958 and data of death around 1986. and his father Jimmy ray Williams (dob around 1955 or 56 and DOD 1983 or 84.) Joseph was the only child of Evelyn (aka "Pinky" but one of many (possible 8 or more ) to Jimmy Williams. Jimmy has 2 boys (at least) with Shelia Canty (still living as far as I can tell)  (maybe married him Williams) named Jimmy (possibly Jimel) born in possibly 1977 and Samuel born sometime near. I am also searching on Ancestry where Joseph and I had done DNA testing in 2019. although he reached out to many DNA matching cousins (1st through about the cousins) but none could connect the dots) I am reading out to his friends (including his middle school dean) to try and get as much info as I can to try and map out as much as I can. I want our grandchildren to know their family history before more are gone with fist hand knowledge. if you can offer any help. I would be grateful. I lost the love of my life and can barely breathe most days. I am struggling financially, and have paid for both his and my ancestry account and also my heritage as well as beenverified to help in my search. I wish I could remember the dates and names of all of the conversations he and I had about his family tree. sadly those I have talked to have either no info to give or are only telling bits and pieces ( I think trying to preserve some family secrets that I could care less about. His daughter (Stardasia Rice born in 1993 in Tampa Fl) is my rock and trying to help. thank you if you have read this to the end.  . this site is a huge challenge for me to navigate and I feel I am getting nowhere.  if anyone has any tips, I would appreciate them too.

So sorry for your loss, Cindi.

Some of the people you are asking about are probably living (and we are not supposed to discuss them here), and most of them were born too recently to be documented in the genealogical sources we rely on.

You may be able to find additional records for Ernest Thibodaux on familysearch.org and Ancestry.com. Also, when the 1950 U.S. Census records are released later this year, it should be possible to find some family members who were living in April 1950, if you have hints about their names.

If you have authority over your husband's DNA test data, you can share his data to Gedmatch.com and FamilyTree DNA to see if there are additional DNA matches there that might help you find his relatives.

PS - The life dates you have for your husband's grandfather do not match the dates on Thibodaux-60. Probably a different Ernest Thibodaux.
Is this the grave of your husband's ancestor: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/1247392/ernest-thibodeaux ?
Cindy, I'm so very sorry for your loss.
Cindi, you've been through a real shock - I am so sorry to hear about your husband's death.  May God be with you during this time of grief and through all the coming years.  May your precious memories of him linger on and on.
I wish there was a race section available for all races. I've had so much trouble trying to separate sources for numerous people with the same name. It would have been a lot easier, & quicker had I known the race of the people I was researching. In my opinion, in genealogy race shouldn't be a "thing". It's no more personal than assigning a sex.
thank you, I am hanging on barley. somedays are a bit better than others, researching family history has become like therapy for me.

Yes this is my husband's grandfather's grave Ernest THIBODAUX grave site

Your husband was a good-looking guy, Cindi. :-)

This may be of some help in making the link between Ernest Thibodeaux and "Aunt Cookie" Jean Johnson Miller.
