Hello Edwyn, I'm curious about your Williams Biography. Have you had the opportunity to scan it or digitalize it?

My great, great grandmother (who married John Morgan David) was a Mary Williams born in Llantwit Fardre, Glamorgan, Wales about 1849. It has been very difficult to research my Williams family because of how common the name is and because I am doing it all online from Canada. Any good resources that you could recommend would be most appreciated.

Look for Mary Williams in Llantwit Vardre 1851 & 1861 census returns as you know how old she would be!  Some of the Williams there were from the oldest Williams farming families in Wales, who moved to Llantrisant from Breconshire around 1800.   As you know the name of her husband, compare the names of their children with Mary's Williams siblings. Try the free sites, freecen.org.uk, freebmd.org.uk, freereg.org.uk for references!
Have you noticed how many WikiTreers have their Welsh roots in Glamorgan, Wales? Do you think that it is because Glamorgan had a higher population, or did they keep better records thus enabling us to find out about them? Just curious to see if anyone can shed light on the question.
Edwardes/Edwards family from Glamorgan, Wales.  Maternal side

I have Welsh roots going back to the beginning of Welsh royalty  which is documented well. So, I guess it goes back even farther. There is a great website about Welsh pedigrees and much valuable information going back hundreds of years.

I am also related to welsh Kings and Queens. One Grandfather Welsh King fought my Viking Invader Grandfather who fought against my Welsh Grandfather. One would win and it wasn't the Welsh King. On that battlefield, I picked My Viking Side of the Family Tree. hehe, You have to take the winner of each battle. I'm so glad that the Vikings didn't kill the children or I would not be here today. Ragnar Lothbrok is my 32 Great Grandfather i think. Many many other Viking Kings are too.
My Welsh known connections:

Gruffudd ap Maredudd, Lord of Mawddwy is my 26th Great Grandfather.

Maredudd, King of Deheubarth is my 28th great Grandfather

Bieddri ap Dyfnwallon, "The Villein" is my 32nd great Grandfather.

Madog ap Maredudd, King of Powys

Lestyn ap Gwrgan, King of Morgannwg, 26th Great Grandfather

Owain ap Hywel Dda, son was a Prince, i take it this guy was a king. 29th Great Grandfather

Sounds so Welsh, Gwrgeneu ap Gwaeddgar, 34th great grandfather

Meig ap Cynglas is my 40th great Grandfather Year: circa 515

Owain ab Afallach is my 58th Great Grandfather. Year -40. 40 roughly years before our Lord's Birth

Tegid Tacitus ap Lago, A Roman in Wales. Says Geni.com. My 47th great Grandfather. The Year circa 295

Coel Hen ap Tegfan, King of Northern Britian sounds like a Welsh Name but was born in England. his son was Tegfan Tasciovanus ap Deheuwaint. No Brit has named these types of names. My 45th Great Grandfather. The Year 340. I have tons more kings and queens in the Welsh Kingdoms and tons of others. I am middle class and Where are my Family Jewels and my Castles.  WE got Cheated, hehe, Queen Elizabeth in which she is a cousin needs to fork over some Castles and Jewels to my family. I am protesting the right to be called Prince Alvin. heh.  I want my share of the family loot!!! Maybe I should go to war with these kingdoms, like my Vikings Ancestors. hehe.
I do have copies of Roman Swords, Knights Templers sword but no Welsh Swords. I need to get a copy of these swords. I am related to the last Welsh King as a grandfather and that would be the last of the royalty of Wales. Thanks, Britain. Stealing everything. hehe Leaving Wales not to be the (trying not to offend) richest culture in the British Isles. It even says that online. Not my words. Even so, I feel close to that country esp with my last name of Meredith. Welsh!
Marion, I have notice there are quite a few from Glamorgan. Some mention towns and others do not. Either way, I wonder if any of our fine ancestors ever knew each other as neighbors, friends or aquaintences. Wouldn't that be something if that was so. Here we are getting to meet many years later through WikiTree.
Jerry, you are right. While not my ancestors, I discovered that two of my first cousins 3X removed who lived near each other not only knew of each other, but both are notables and both were in real estate. One was a very successful developer, Henry Carpenter Smith

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Smith-185435

the first mayor of Glen Rock New Jersey, USA and the other was Hetty Stillwell Lee

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stillwell-1231

a real-estate agent and genealogist who was appointed by the same mayor to the zoning board.

Hello A.J. It appears that we may be cousins. Afallach is another spelling of Amalach, my ancestor.

Hi Eowyn,

My Great Grand Mother Alice Kemmis-Betty was born in Swansea in 1871. She had a pretty scary childhood, from a modern perspective, but lived a full and interesting life.  We know a lot about her childhood from a mémoire she wrote at the age of 20, detailing her first 16 years. I also received information from my Grandfather’s nephew the French family’s historian and from Alice’s Great nephew.

Profile: Kemmis-Betty-1

I have found that my  4th great-grandfather was Thomas Lewellen, born May 17, 1726 in Glamorgan, Wales. I have not been able to follow his line back in Wales. Other lines in my family go back to Wales such as my direct ancestor,Llewelyn Fawr "The Great" ab Iorwerth, Prince of Gwynedd, Prince of Gwynedd ( though of course the name does not connect me there).

Have you gone on Geni.com? Many lines are connected there, if you put in all the information. Actually one can Google the name of the person, such as your fourth great grandfather and then put Geni after it. The name could possibly pop up from other people having found it already.

If you are kin to Llewelyn the Great, then we are cousins and probably through more than one line. We are cousins more than once. I love it.
Then, Nice to know you Cousin. Ya, I haven't placed all that I have from GENI onto Wiki. It's that thing you shouldn't put anything before 1700;s with docs. Frankly, over at GENI, many of my distant cousins know the history of Wales and speaks it. I have no documentation. But, I am reinsured that I am the grandson of these people. I added all my family members back to the 1600s that my grandmother told me as a child. And Wala, I am these descendants. But no, I don't have graphs, docs, and I don't trace. I investigate. I can't read old English, less speak new English. heh. Thus, I have not added my trees to Wiki, and hehe be critical if I don't bring with solid evidence. My distant cousins have done that since 2007. I trust them, otherwise many would YELL online at ya. I have seen that over there. BOY, i made a few mistakes and got chewed up like a rat with a cat. heh, You guys do not yell at each other here. But, NO OFFENSE, some of the features of Familysearch and Geni is a bit more easy and faster to looking up connections of what you are to that person. I find it a little harder here on Wiki. I STILL LOVE WIKI. heh

PLS, no hate mail. My best friend from H.S. in which we been friends with for over 47 years. We stop talking over the past administration. He made a fortune off of Wars in the Middle East. Regrets it now but we stop talking to each other for five years. We are now reconnecting. So I don't heh need any more hate mail. heh, I LOVE WIKI, just that, without evidence, i wasn't going to put down all my family trees here. I ask this again, WHERE IS MY FAMILY JEWELS AND CASTLES, QUEEN ELIZABETH. shhh she is hard of hearing. Or we might be like 8,000 miles away from each other. Or she has too many other relatives to give me proper status. heh From now ON, I shall be called Lord Alvin James Meredith or, Lord Homeless. Cause i don't have a few castles. HEH (Shhhhh I LOVE WIKI- just can be improved in some features. NO HATE MAIL) We are all DISTANT COUSINS. So love me.
Nice to Know you, Cousin Misty. Again, shall we unite and take back what is ours in the United Kingdom or a class lawsuit telling Liz that we are all princes and princesses over here? hehe. I doubt she claims us. I am a King, of my one room in the house. The Throne is what every man states privately. His hmmm what you sit on when you have to go. HEH. Nice to meet ya Cousin.
Nice to meet my distant Cousin Marion. Dear Cuz, did the Kings of Wales given you your royal Scepter yet? heh, I use my walking stick and bless the possums and raccoons in my area. They are my audience. heh, Would like to get your family tree, if you have it over Geni if you would give me some data I could look at their person to me graft and I can see where we meet up the tree lines. Nice to hear from you Cuz.
COUSIN!!! We must invite the thousands of lost distant cousins to a very large dinner over at Buckingham Palace. We are related.  If you are referring to Llewelyn Fawr ab Lorwerth, Prince of "Gwynedd=Meredith" is Alvin James Meredith 22nd Great Uncle.
HeH, This has nothing to do with Wales or The Welsh Connections. I read over geni that one of my English Great grandfathers, A Prince was sent to marry the Daughter of the King of Spain. I said, "WHAT"? I am Spanish now? Well, The king dies and That grandfather is now the British King of Spain. I have some hehe Distant cousins from South American and from Spain reaching out to me. I don't speak Spanish. My wife is from Mexico and she translated it for me. This Year, 2021. I find out that I am Ukrainian. My grandfather "Rurik" King of Sweden or Norway invaded and conquered Ukraine, ( BACK OF PUTIN- Stop attacking my people- heh) and became King of Ukraine. I find out that Alexander's father, King Phillip is a grandfather. Constantinople's Kings is my grandparents. I find out that the trees lead to Iran, Iraq, ISRAEL, and Portugal. So, i am Portuguese, Spanish, Norwegians, Swedish, Ukrainian, Iranian, Iraqi, Jewish, Turkish. It never stops. I am having a large dinner tomorrow night. I will be sitting down as the United Nations of the world since my Cake Recipe is with tons of spices in it. Meaning, indeed I have half of Europe and Asia in my blood. If I fight with myself, I will be considered crazy or we having a war within the United Nations bloodlines. Heh!!! One more story before I end tonight. Again, Nothing to do with Welsh Lines. OR MAYBE IT DOES, I read somewhere on geni that four generations of my family went on that Holy Crusaders Religion War with the Persians fighting over Jerusalem. Behold, NOT A GOOD THING!! Great Grandfather dies on the battlefield in the middle east. His son carries on and dies over there. The grandson hops over and dies for Jerusalem. STOP STOP, pls great-grandson don't go or I won't be born a thousand years later. He goes over and dies too. If I was a mother, I would suggest to the next generation. YOU NOT BECOMING A KNIGHT. its Bad luck for this family. hehe!!! It might have been Welsh or British Isles but I am sure it was the United Kingdom, somewhere. (i am from the Royalty of France too. I am not saying it was there, but, it could have been. I doubt it, but don't hold me to it.) Let's say it was Wales. heheh You really learn some stuff from the past. Its fun but think of it. I have seen so many of my ancestors DIE in BATTLE. One grandfather that was a Knight in the UK. had breakfast, kissed his wife and didn't come home that day from battle. The kingdom helped the family after he died. How sad, My tough duty is to make sure that the grass is watered. BATTLE? ME? I carry a sword in my neighborhood for protecting against coyotes because they have killed a few dogs in my area. I walk with a chihuahua named "Daisy". If the cops stop me I will say, I AM ROYALTY, My grandfathers were VIKINGS, it is our right to carry swords. I will then be arrested. hehehh Back to what I was saying, Stress? nothing to compare to our ancestors. I have a very EASY life to compare to them. I AM SPOILED. Pls do not hate me, one more off the Wales subject, and after this, I will shut up and only write about Wales. In Britain, there is a town called, "Water Eaton Castle that my grandparents had built. The oldest son got the property. For THOUSANDS OF YEARS, my lineage got all the castles. Now, I am the youngest and got nothing hehe. At age 18? 19? This son comes to the New World. He travels Water Eaton to Virginia. WHAT? An 18-year-old?? GEES, at any rate in his diary he states. The water went bad, the food has spoiled, this journey will take I think he says 8-10 weeks and 32 children have passed away. There is a storm three times larger than this clipper ship and I doubt we will make and be at the bottom of the sea by morning. HOW SCARY is that. Our ancestors had it hard. Nothing to compare to our lives today. Standing in line for 30 mins due to covid. It is bad, yes, but, heh not to grandparents hunting in snow in the middle of winters. Shhh, I will disappear like snow in springtime. I am melting and no more from your distant cousin.  Now you can ban me from your platform. heh
I lied, sorry about adding it twice. Pls forgive me.
I have tried to research your 4th great grandfather, Thomas Lewellen, born 1726-1786. Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. Died in Greensville Country, Virginia, USA. I figured you must have added that onto findagrave. But yes, Llewlyn Fawr, The Great is my 22nd great Uncle. I hardly ever research the Aunts and Uncle's trees. I have enough going back to grandmas and grandpa's. I would imagine that my Uncles and Aunts have some history to their stories as well. But we are cousins. I'm a vegetarian and we not eating Sheep tonight. NO MEATS. heh Arby's hates me. Bugs Bunny loves me.
Hi A.J.

I have laughed so heartily and why? Because you have said all the things that I have thought about. You are a comedian!!! Talk about a witty person.

First of all, why didn’t the royalty we descend from  think about their descendants and make certain that we had castles, money, and be established with titles? I have thought of approaching Liz and telling her of our dilemma. We are her cousins and we descend from the Norman’s and nearly ever medieval King and Queen who ever lived. What is wrong with this picture? She should at least give us titles and make us Lord’s and Ladies. I mean that is the least she can do considering all the Royal blood flowing through our veins, but she can’t even answer a phone call. Ugh!

I like you never knew all the different people that I descended from. It gets the imagination going. I mean really going until it gets hilarious. My husband is so tired of me talking about “I’m kin to that person.” Then I show him how and his eyes glaze over. Well, you know it’s just jealousy lol

I mean this is more interesting than any stupid Lifetime movie. If they made a movie of our heritage....it would be a blockbuster for sure. All the different people with names like the “Blue Knight of Gwent” or a woman named “Dangerouse” she has to have been dangerous with that name, Rollo who was too big to ride a horse. The stories we could write.

We have so many ancestors on Wikipedia that with every profile, we should print out the Wikipedia information on the person. Then make a series about people like Rurik, Yasolav the Wise, Anna of Kiev, the emperors of Constantinople  and so on. At this point I feel that I’m a walking encyclopedia of the history of the nobility.

You can write me at chanteuse617@icloud.com

After hearing all the bloodlines you have, I am certain that we are cousins through who knows how many lines.

I want my crown! I guess I will have to wait for my Heavenly one, as it doesn’t look like a sure thing here.

Maybe it is true if we all got together, they might do something and give us our due lol

It looks like our common ancestor is

Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk

he is my 14th great-grandfather and your 16th great-grandfather making us 15th cousins twice removed.

Off to the castle

I like you Misty. Not for the movie with Clint Eastwood as a Radio host and stalked by a lady named Misty. OPPS the movie was called, "Play Misty For Me". But thank you, Cousin. You made me feel I didn't bug anyone tonight.
Dear Cousin, Pls no wars between our Clans and Castles. We have a low budget for our castle. We need Gifts from God to run ours. hehe ONE DAY, we will UNITED and gained our INDEPENDENCE from you know who??? Those BRITS!!! COUSIN LIZ, you ppl have put us down enough. TO WAR WE COME. WELSHIES UNITE!!!
Flag me for speaking too much for tonight. heh, THIS IS WELSH HISTORY!!! I wasn't raised by my father. My dad's niece passed away (my cousin) just a few years ago. I had not known my dad's side of history. My grandmother was Charlotta Mangus. She is like the KEY to that Magical Door to Disneyland. It opens up to secret enchantment Rides. She is the key to all my Kings and Queens connection. It is true my mother's side has them too but, her lineage is in a different direction. Both of Whales, I mean Welshies. From many centuries ago. Grandma's lineage is the connection to Charlemagne, Alias MAGNUS, meaning Great in Latin. If she only lived to know what Royality she was, and to me, for i had not known her. She told my dad to get me and bring me to his state of Washington. My mother was from SD, Ca. Two different people, from two different locations and states. Dad from the country, Mom from one of the largest cities. They couldn't stand each other. HEH. DONNY AND MARIE, old song about was it Rock n Roll and Country? Or City and Country, it has been so long ago now. hehe, Grandmother would have been proud of what I found for her. One day, both of my Grandmothers I will tell them all about the proud lineage they left for me. Oh, Wait, If I get up there. I donated 33 gallons of rare blood so I can bride St. Peter. HE BETTER LET ME IN. heh. IF NOT, I want my BLOOD BACK!!! I hearing that my special blood goes over 5,000 dollars. WAIT, I want part of that sales. hehe, I do not!!
Cousin Tommy, We will UNITE, but not war against our poor Kingdoms. Let always keep it that way, unless you have more Family JEWELS than ours. THEN that is a whole different story. TO WAR we come!!!! LIZ, you made us cousins jealous of each other. GAVE US SOME GOLD, JEWELS, and SERVANTS.
Pls, forgive me, once I get to talking I forget what I was originally gonna say. My Grandmother's ancestors back in Wales end up Marrying my Mother's Wales connections. That makes my parents, Long Distant Cousins/Married Couples. Explains why I am on the Batty/Nutty side of life. THANKS, my dear Parents. THANKS to WALES. Kissing Cousins is not good. Wasn't there in ancient Wales more possibilities for romance?
You are absolutely one of the most witty people, besides my mom that I’ve ever come across.

Cousin Misty
THANK-YOU Cousin Misty for the awesome night comparing Welsh Kings. Truly was delightful. We share more than just a lineage to Wales. Half of the world it seems. We related to so many other nations of Kings and Queens. I beginning to think that you must be my Dad's other secret family. heh. How can you have the very same ancestors In Wales, U.K., France, Norway, Ukraine, Israel. Gees. Need a Kidney? I bet we are compatible DNA. Thank you for the Call. This is why we search for the past. To connect to the Future. Patent that Statement. hehe. Keep in Touch, Cuz!!!!
Hello Cousin A.J., So that's what it is - a royal Scepter. I was wondering what that was. Thought it was a magic wand. Living on the ocean, my audience consists mainly of octupuses and mermaids but when I waved my wand/scepter, they all slithered away. They probably thought it was a fishing pole. haha

I agree with you. I would caution our Welsh, Scottish and English cousins alike against wars between Clans and Castles. Think of the paperwork.

We probably do not need to go back as far as our ancestor, King Amalach, to find a common ancestor. Most likely we have much more recent common ancestors. Although Wales looms large in our hearts, it has had a relatively small population historically. Not everyone who ever lived in Wales had descendants, so living descendants, which restricts the pool of possible ancestors. Probably we can find at least one recent connection.

Most of my family tree is on WikiTree. I'm not sure what may be on Geni. What data do you need to check it out?
Hey Cousin Marion, Misty and I chatted for many many hours last night over our connections. We learned a lot. Reach me at my email and we will chat? mereditham@sbcglobal.net. Your Cousin, A.J. (Alvin).
I Played a game for 20 years as a mage, heh, Yes, mine is also magical but royalty as well. Since we are all princes and princesses, we should be able to demand Cousin Liz servants to fletch us Tea like she. Or bring up the Bently. Heh. Or, have the Royal Guards bring to us Energy Companies to reduce the rates or off with their heads but first we beat them with our Scelper. hehe
I do like your humor cousin Marion. Hats or Scepter off to you. heh

I have a book titled "Genealogy of the Williams Family, Descendants of John Williams of Neath, Glamorganshire, Wales."  The book was published in Chicago in 1897.

John Williams was a farmer and hatter in Wales. He is said to have advanced funds to aid Oliver Cromwell in the conquest of Ireland and is thought to have served in the military under Cromwell. John Williams was awarded land in Northern Ireland. The next three generations included three descendants named John Williams.

Ann Williams, he daughter of the 4th John Williams was born in 1747 and she married William Bell also born in 1747. The couple left Ireland with their children and came to Western Pennsylvania in 1792.

Ann Williams is my 4th great grandmother.

My Williams ancestors were from Canon Pyon in Herefordshire. I think they are Welsh. One of these days I'll have to figure out how to prove it.

I have Welsh Quaker ancestors who emigrated to Pennsylvania in the 1600’s and 2nd great-grandparents who came to America in 1847 and settled in a Welsh community near Rome, New York.  I have their Bible in Welsh and my mother went to the local Welsh Congregational church with her grandparents as a small child.  They still sang some hymns in Welsh.  I have also been to the church in Tal-y-llyn where my ancestors were married and the farm where she worked as a maid and he as a farm-hand.

Yes, my husband's gg-? grandfather was born in Breconshire, Wales. His name was Edward Edwards and was born in 1827. According to an 1841 England, Wales & Scotland census. Family members were Walter b-1791, Blanch b-1818, Edward b-1827 and Walter b-1831 all born in Wan Vach, Llanbeder, Crickhowell, Breconshire, Wales. I only have info on the Edward born in 1827. Through the generations, none of the first names have changed which makes me crazy.

According to WikiTree, my family has very deep Welsh roots.  In fact, the roots are so deep as to make me wonder, but I don't have the ability to research that far back yet (and often there is a language barrier, as well).  It is interesting to see, however.  Example:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wledig-4

There are also more recent, less questionable Welsh roots in my part of the tree.

My direct paternal line does in fact branch off into Wales distantly, and maybe that accounts for some of the 2% Welsh now detected in my DNA. Probably there are other connections I'm not aware of yet.

Yes! My mother is a Ragland. I've had a hard time tracing the family because they left Wales, I believe, before United States Independence. I wish I had more free time to devote to it, but who doesn't wish for that?

Yes, I am the Third Great Grandson of Elizabeth Terrick, born in Wales about 1775. (See Terrick-10) .  She was the wife of Louis Movelle and resided on Merasheen Island, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador.  I have no further details on her Welch origins and would really like more info if anyone can help. Thanks.

Yes.  My grandfather, Thomas Clinton Harper, was born 08 May 1871, at Mill Farm, Kemys Inferior, Monmouthshire, Wales.  He was one of 19 children born to Thomas and Elizabeth (Morgan) Harper.  Not all lived to adulthood and there was one set of twins that died shortly after birth, having been baptized at home immediately after birth.  My grandfather left Wales after a row with his father, apparently still talked about in the area, and left for America where his aunt and uncle lived.

Yes. My paternal forebears are Trevors from North Wales and more recently the Guilsfield area in Montgomeryshire. Also, further back (late 18th century) connections with Humphreys and Lloyd families
by Buz Trevor G2G Crew (470 points)
I have  ancestors from Guilsfield as well.(Hanmer)  I went up there a few years back and took a lot of photos of the church and cemetery. Traced some ancestors to Burgedin which is a small place close to Guilsfield.

Yes, on my mother's side. On my maternal grandfather's side, Edwin Dawson, my 3x great grandfather was born in Wales in 1805.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dawson-7523

On my maternal grandmother's side, we have to go back a little farther than that to the year 90 CE when Wales had kings. I am descended from Amalach ap Beli, King of Wales.

Puleston  mostly from Flintshire on paternal side.  We have traced back to Sir Roger Puleston, Knight of Emral, 1484-1544.

We could be related very very far back then. Roger Puleston married Angharad, daughter of Griffith HANMER and grand-daughter of Tudur ap Gronwy of Anglesey
