Whoa -- are there a bunch of James H Powell's born in 1819?!  Do you have a country/state that he was born in or died in?
James H. Powell b. 5 Sept. 1918 in VA., d. 1 Sept 1892 Sidell, IL

Any idea of wife (wives)?  I don't see any census information that corresponds to the James H Powell listed with those dates on FindAGrave James H Powell on FindAGrave  What about children of James & ?.

There's a James Powell married to a Nancy in the 1880 census; they reside in Indiana and there's no child matching the Isabella that is listed. 1880 census James Powell

I think it's going to be quite difficult to pin down who the parents are if he can't be found in the census information.

James H. Powell was my Great Grandfather. He married Nancy Jane Robinson on 19 Feb 1840 in Belmont, OH. I believe they had 10 children, one of whom is my Grandfather..Robert Lincoln Powell. I cannot seem to find James H. Powell's ancestors. I have confirmed his grave in Sidell, IL where a lot of my father's family is buried. Just trying to locate James H. Powell's ancestors. I have come to my brick wall here. Any further help would be most appreciated! Thank you...
I have a James H Powell in my line. They left Georgia and went to Illinois. I also have connections to the Robinson family in Illinois so it is a good possibility he is in my line. I believe his father was John Augustus Powell but it also could be Thomas Perry Powell as well.

This is a possibility for James and Nancy. 1850 census, James & anna Powell with some younger children

If you know the name of some of their children, you may be able to rule out this possibility.  Not knowing that, I would not exclude this record.  This a large family group and James is the approx. age (33) and Anna is also (29).  Anna could have been a nickname used especially since there was an older Nancy in the family group.  The children listed below James are the right age if they were married in 1840 in Belmont county. That marriage information is crossed out in the record book and there is no secondary information (a marriage return) written down -- doesn't mean it didn't happen, just it's good to know.  I might think the family was on the move and the couple were married in a county farther west of Belmont.  The marriage license that is crossed out does have the ages of James and Nancy.
