How Long to Be Wiki Genealogist?

Hi All,

I've been a member for about three years now and I know the process has seen several changes since then.  I just realized, trying to communicate with a potential new member, that I no longer have a good idea how long the process to become a Wiki Genealogist would normally take for a newbie.  Hours?  Days?

Just looking for a ballpark idea here to tell someone who might be interested.

Didn't I just do the whole process in a day? sign up, get greeted, say something publicly about helping the tree, volunteer, sign the honor code.
Anne, you are a force of nature!  :-)  I just looked briefly at your contributions, and the sheer volume of what you've done here, in such a short time, is amazing!
For me it was relatively instantaneous - in an interval of under an hour, I went from never having heard of WikiTree (and not knowing how to spell genealogy) to Wiki Genealogist.

I have been a member for 4 months, so this is pretty fresh in my mind.  Before anyone comments on the obscene number of points I have amassed, that happened only because of how little I knew and my lack of shyness to ask lots and lots and lots of questions.

To get the Wiki Genealogist badge a member needs to sign the Honor Code, as Anne mentioned.

I see that is question was marked with a minus, but I think it's a great question.  Thanks for asking Fred.

Unless I missed a change, and that is possible, the process to actually get the badge is easy and can be done in about 1 day. The learning curve will take a little time because a lot of things are done differently here than on other sites but we have a lot of people who are more than willing to help with not only learning how to do things here but also with finding more about your family.  With these differences we would have a difficult time putting a time on your question because some who have been here for only a short time are more advanced than some who were here from the beginning.

That is what I would tell someone who questioned me about how long it takes.

Fred,

Your question is akin to asking what's the learning curve to become a MVP?

Success in sports happens incrementally. We all begin “playing the game” with different skill levels and advance according to our enthusiasm, determination and practice. Some players may never achieve greatness, but their presence on the team is as necessary as the MVP.

The MVP only succeeds because the game is first, foremost and always a team effort.

What's an MVP?

In American sports, at the end of the season, a teamate is awarded the title of Most Valuable Player.
