Smith nightmare

Hi

I'm looking for help to find my Grandmothers family.  I know her DOB, her wedding date, the names of her brother and sister, husband and son (my dad).  Her birth certificate online says her mothers maiden name was Smith and her fathers surname was unknown.  I know she lived with her husband from marriage til death so I don't know why his surname isn't mentioned.

He was a plumber in Newcastle upon Tyne and every search i have tried has given me nothing.

I have ordered a copy of her birth certificate to see if there are any more details on the physical copy, but short of that is there anything else i can try?

I only use free websites currently.

Thanks in advance

I'm assuming that your grandmother was Elsie Smith born 1912? Her birth certificate will give an address which will hopefully be where your great-grandmother was living a year earlier in the 1911 census. We can help you find the census entry for that address if necessary.

Thats a great idea, thank you

Can you locate her marriage record, which may show her maiden name? Then look for either parents listed there, or look for her in census records with that name, and try to narrow down which family she belongs to.

im getting a copy of her marriage certificate this week.  The online version only gives her mothers name as Smith so I don't know if that is her maiden name or married name and no name for the father
