Just got a formatting problem here!

I am trying to work on my understanding of bevolkingsregisters for Dutch genealogy, and am practicing putting information into boxes. I have done one that went almost successfully, but I did another and it only shows one of the four entries.

I am a 'lil confused as to why it won't show the entire thing. Also, I am wondering how I can shorten the boxes a little bit so they don't extend as far across the page.

Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the ID for the one that mostly worked: Van_der_Bilt-332

It could help to add the "dutch_roots" tag.

The lines which have content start only with the pipe |, not with |- . I think if you just leave the first dash after the first pipe out of those lines, the full table will show up.

I have trouble with my census tables stretching out too wide, too, so I limit which information to include so I don't have as many columns. I will be watching your post to see if others post a solution.

Thank you Nelda.

I actually just finished another one here, and it turned out perfectly: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pruntel-3

I will take those adjustments though, hopefully that fixes it!
I edited one by taking out the dashes, and that made it go everywhere??
Glad you had success with another one. Hopefully you can rework the other one based on what you did so it, too, displays correctly.

I did think of one way to decrease the width of your table and that is to shorten the names of your columns. Perhaps you could just number the columns and have a legend above the table to tell what is in each numbered column. I think they will still be wide, but it may help some. Is there a way to consolidate any of the columns so you have fewer columns?
Don't remove the dashes from your "spacer lines" just from your content lines. I just did it and looked at the preview and it worked. (My terminology may not be correct--I don't know what those |- lines are really called--"spacer lines" is just something I made up for myself.)
Thanks a lot, Nelda!

Really appreciate the help, it worked!

I also like the advice for decreasing the width, will try that in future.

Thanks again,

Alex Fransen

I'm so glad it worked! I've been sitting here thinking about it some more, hoping it would.

You may have already thought of this, but when I get something to work, I save it in a word document, then I use it as a template for the next time I need to do the same thing or something similar.

Here's a page you might want to check out to help you with constructing tables (it helped me) - Mindy's Table Help

Also, WikiTree has another page which can help you make tables if you already have the data set up in Excel spreadsheet--you just copy and paste it into the linked Table Maker. It's a pretty cool tool.
