I decided to see if any of the Cornbread Catchers Team were my relations using the Relations checker.

Results are added at the end of this post. My closest cousin was an 8th Cousin. Interestingly, this is through Thomas Durham [Durham-145] . More interesting is that most of the relations below go through my Durham branch of my tree.

This tells me what I would have guessed, that there are many paths through the Durhams and their ancestors on WikiTree.

I am currently working on my Durham line and the research is difficult. There is a huge amount of Durham ancestral information online, in published genealogies, in Ancestry, in Family Search. The problem is there is so much, it is not practical to even look through much of it. The second problem is that most of it is WRONG.

Looking at family trees on Ancestry, it is obvious that much of it is a fairy tale. Bizarre sources, totally unreliable trees, nothing has been researched. And I admit, it is a line I early filled in at Ancestry. I am just coming back to it and yes, it needs a huge amount of real research.

This 8th Cousin link goes through  [Durham-145]. This is a connection that I will break soon. But I think my line's connection to DURHAM-145 is the tip of the Iceberg, so to speak.

At any rate, cleaning up my Durham line is one task I hope to complete during the Connect-a-thon ( oops - do I lose points for breaking connections?? )

I know one extremely well known genealogist is working on Thomas's [Durham-145] father and has not been able to extend the line upward. This tends to reinforce my conclusions about Durham genealogy.

At any rate, I will be adding many of my Durham DNA cousins and their connections to me during the Connect-a-thon

Cheers,

Linda

Fun stuff, LG. We are linked through my mother's paternal line. I'm confident of those back through my 3xgreat but anything beyond is all up for discussion LOL

LG Price and David Selman are both descendants of Margaret (Audley) de Stafford (abt.1324-1349).

David is the 20th great-grandson of Margaret.

I found this very interesting.

The Connect-a-Thon starts tomorrow morning at 8am EST. How have you planned for the event?

You should have received an email from Mindy earlier today with ideas on how to find starting profiles from which you can add the new ones. Let us know if you have any questions.

Debi, I have neglected my own family and seem to go off on other things, so I have plenty of work finding cousins and trying to stay focused. I am looking forward to the Thon.
I have been working on a long list of my Templeton, Mattox, Hampton, and Gilbreath cousins that aren't on WikiTree yet.  Making sure that they aren't already there, and checking to make sure they have sources was slow going, but now that list will make it easier.  Searching those names on WikiTree helped me find some of the ancestors on WikiTree already, so I'll be able to connect them to the tree.  Let the fun commence!

Hi All!

I am new to WikiTree, but not to genealogy.  I got an email for starting profiles from Mindy, but I'm still a little confused as to how this whole thon works.  Can anyone help me out?  I am really excited to help people find their connections.

Hi Amanda, it shows that you have added three new profiles so far.    Keep up the good work—you are part of the Cornbread Catchers and helping the team.

Amanda, this should help you see your scores       https://wikitree.sdms.si/Challenges/ConnectAThon/TeamAndUser.htm

Thanks!
