Consulting the FamilySearch wiki will give you guidance on research in these area:

There are a number of records available at FamilySearch. Some Portuguese church records are restricted and you will need an LDS account to view them: you can get help from the volunteers at a FHC, unfortunately they are still closed due to pandemic controls.
There are some very useful resources for the Azores that are not part of FamilySearch.
You will need more information on the family to get started. You will need to know locations in both Brazil and Portugal where your ex’s family came from. To connect to the published records you will likely need to know something about his grandparents. There may be records in Portugal that would be useful, but the more recent ones will be subject to the EU privacy rules.
Best of luck.
Hi Pam,
Check out the resources of the Portugal and Latin America projects. You can find links to those projects here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Projects
Best wishes!
