The 1900 census on the profile may be the wrong one.

1900 census Philadelphia for Benjamin Rosenberg lists all the children indicated on the profile gives Benjamin's dob August 1861 in Germany, wife Annie, married 1875, and Ben immigrated 1878
Son Harry died in Philadelphia. Son Isadore born and died Philadelphiia
Thank you, I will look closer at that.

Does he show up on any other census? When did he come over?  Are their shipping records?  Death/burial records?  Is there an obituary?  Other Rosenberg/ Rosenburg's in the area?  If he is Jewish the Jewish Heritage Association will have information or there is a Jewish genealogical group on the internet. I am surprised that there doesn't appear to be a burial recorded for him in Cumberland, NJ?

Good luck in the adventure.

Good luck in your search.

Apparently he immigrated in 1880, and was naturalized by 1900.
The website Jewishgen, and several others have been searched. I am not familiar with research in this area or the language. I was hoping that someone familiar in this area would be able to find some documentation for his wife and parents.
On many passenger manifests, if Ancestry or family search includes an image, the passenger had to name someone still in the "old country" who would be notified if a disaster or death occured and note what the relationship was to the passenger.

Clues may be found also by noting on other passenger lists, immigrants of the same surname from the same area and on USA census records, those of the same surname living in the same city area. Frequently, an elder brother would come to the USA, earn money and send for other family members - siblings, parents, etc
Thank you, he came alone. There were no other family members on the manifest or any noted relations. I have not located a census for him before 1900. He was married by then. He is the only one in the area from Russia. His wife was from Germany and it appears to be an area with mostly German and Italian emigrants.
Maybe a clue - Morris Rosenberg, born 1868, came to Manhattan December 1900

Also WW1 draft records in Manhattan, 66 male Rosenbergs

draft registrations frequently name next of kin
Thanks, Eddie, I will see if I can locate those records.
Wow I have never seen that, I have only seen the shipping lists/manifestos with the person and location they are going to in the new country.
Many passenger lists - the image - have a contact listed far right side. On Ancestry you sometimes have to click the right side arrow on the image to get a second page. Also found in many images, before the "old country" contact, there is the name of a relative or close associate already living in the USA that the passenger is going to.
