Do you have the Greeter genes in your DNA? [closed]

Hi WikiTreers!

Do you enjoy helping others? Do you like meeting new people? If your answers are “yes,” then you may be interested in joining the Greeters Project!

What are Greeters? We are the starting point for Guests, Family Members and Wiki Genealogists at WikiTree. We welcome them and help with questions or issues they may have!

Pre-requisites for joining:

1) ... is a Wiki Genealogist who has signed the Honor Code

2) ... has been a member for more than 45 days
3) ... has made over 100 non-GEDCOM contributions
4) ... is a special volunteer who is able to communicate with guests and new members in a friendly, helpful manner.
5) ... is able to edit a profile, post messages, and use e-mail.
6) ... is someone who has a good understanding of WikiTree principles and procedures or knows where to find the answers.
7) ... has not been involved in a mentoring situation or had a referral badge or been the subject of an MIR in the past 3 months.
 

You will have a thorough training/shadowing session with a member of the leadership team to learn the ropes. We use a Google Calendar to schedule shifts so you can pick dates and times that will work for you. The minimum only one hour per week. For communications, we use Google Groups and Discord.

Not sure how well Google Calendars and Discord work with assistive technologies - I'm in the process of learning one and have never touched the other. But I'd be more than willing to give it a go.

We are doing a lot of traveling, so I don't know how much time I can devote to greeting, but I do meet all of the requirements.

Only takes one hour a week, Cheryl, and you can float, too, without having to be tied to the schedule. And, boy, do we need floaters!

I would like to be considered for greeting and helping new members to wikitree especially in UK/Gloucestershire. I have introduced several members and are guiding them as they grow their profiles and would like to do this on a larger scale if I can

Hi! I just heard Julie mentioned in tonight's livecast that you guys were looking for more members, and I would love to join. I meet all of the criteria. French is also my native language, so I can make bilingual welcome messages to people from francophone countries if that may help!

I'm not very comfortable with Google Groups yet but I'm willing to learn, and I'm very active on Discord.

Hi,

I received your request for volunteers forwarded via the Scotland Project. Not sure why, but they put an additional pre-requisite on that you must live in Scotland to volunteer.

As you don't seem to have that restriction in your pre-requisites list, I'm happy to put forward my name to help out as a greeter.

I currently live in New Zealand with most of my ancestors coming from Scotland or Germany. The Scottish connections are now spread over large expanses of the world, so I'm familiar with resources and quirks of researching in many countries.

I'm an IT Consultant so I'm familiar with Google Calendar, not used Discord before, but I'm sure I can work it out.
