If there are any Nixon males who have already taken a Y-DNA test, there is now a new FREE website to allow us to share results.

It's similar to Ysearch, if you remember it, or, alternatively, GedMatch, except that it handles mt-DNA and y-DNA instead of au-DNA.

It's - mitoydna.org

Please consider sharing your results.

A few suggestions.

Fingers crossed some matching male Nixons will test. Nixon’s reading this blog will likely have tested already, but maybe not yDNA with family tree. Have you done atDNA and uploaded to other sites and GEDmatch to try and find Nixon matches ?

Find where your grandfathers or great grandfathers etc lived and look for Nixon’s there. They usually did not move very far back then and a few may be still be around. atDNA may help with this.

Unlike me, the surname is probably too common for approaching Nixon’s at random, but you never know. Ask if they know of a genealogist in their family who might be able to help.

Good luck

Yes, I tested au-DNA... AND uploaded the results to GedMatch AND posted the kit# here...

I'm specifically trying to encourage (cajole? beg?) male Nixons to take the y-DNA test... specifically because it does NOT include the maternal DNA... which means that we would KNOW that matches came through the direct paternal line.

With au-DNA, the match could come from ANY of the lines, so it's not as conclusive... and especially not at THIS number of generations... going back to 1700's and even earlier.
Cajole and beg has had little success for me either. Winning a lottery helps as you can offer to pay but privacy issues seem a bigger brick wall than cost. I have paternal and maternal yDNA at BigY level and occasional matches appear but its a slow waiting game.
