Hi everyone!

500px-Marchal-178.jpgIt's time to meet another one of our wonderful WikiTreers. This week's member is Isabelle Huth.

Isabelle became a Wiki Genealogist in January of 2020. She's active in our France, Germany and Medieval projects.

What are some of the surnames you are researching?

On my mother’s side: Zapp, Büchsner, Seichepine and Nassoy. On my father’s side: Oliger, Marchal, Chatrian, Hagood and Schwalbach.

What are some of the locations you are researching?

Mainly France and Germany, but also Italy, Austria, and the United Kingdom.

When and how did you get interested in genealogy and family history?

Twenty years ago, someone in my family started a family tree and explained and showed me his research and results. I found it so interesting that I started too and kept searching over and over again. There was already a good start of a family tree on my father's side which had been started by one of my uncles and which my father had shown me.

Who's your favorite ancestor and why?

I love them all, including my glassmaker ancestors. But there is one that particularly attracts me for its historical side (because I like history so much). Hans Bruno von Niedbrück, my 13th great grandfather, who was a doctor of medicine, diplomat, advisor and speaker for the city of Metz in France, and who was sent as an emissary to Calais to negotiate a mediation of the Protestants between France and England in 1545 (and I like very much this period of time).

Tell us about a brick wall you hope to bust through.

I hope to bust through a good part of my brick walls one day, especially the Hagood and Chatrian parts on my father’s side.

If you could pick one person in history to be related to, who would it be and why?

Leonardo da Vinci, because I admire the man, his genius, his paintings, his inventions and his life.

What are some of your interests outside of genealogy?

I like to travel (I love going to Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Florence, London), and taking pictures. I like to draw, cross stitch, read, listen to music, and watch movies and tv shows (especially historical and biographical movies).

How long have you been on WikiTree and what do you spend the most time doing?

I have been on WikiTree since 31 January 2020. I’m involved in the France Project, Germany Project, Medieval Project, and Glassmaking descendants. Most of the time, I do research in books and on the internet and I try to improve profiles with my findings, and work on profiles of each of the projects the best I can.

What brought you to WikiTree?

I found WikiTree while researching on the internet a few years ago, but didn't sign up right away. If I would have known it was that good, I would have signed up right away. But before, I was shy. ;-)

What is your favorite thing about WikiTree?

I like everything on WikiTree. But if I have to cite any, I'll say suggestions in the profiles I manage (I like to correct them), and the relationship finder.

If you could improve one thing about WikiTree, what would it be?

Nothing. Or maybe the approval time for pending merges.

What is an example of how WikiTree has helped you with your genealogy?

I would say WikiTree taught me to cite my sources correctly, to be more rigorous, to share with other WikiTreers. WikiTree also helped me to find cousins around the world, among the descendants of glassmakers for example.

Any tips for someone just starting out on WikiTree?

Ask for help when you need it, don’t hesitate! WikiTreers are very kind and always ready to help. Besides, I thank them again for the help they gave me.

Isabelle, loved looking at your research. So enchanted to meet another Marchal researcher! My Marchals (Marechal) hail from Petitmagny in Belfort Territory.

Thank you Eowyn wink

Congratulations, Isabelle, on your Member of the week award, and thank you for all you do for our tree.  I enjoyed reading about your work.  I was especially interested in the glassmaking aspect.  One of my brick wall ancestors, John Felter, born in France, had a son who was involved with the Dunbarton Glass works, near Durhamville, New York, in the mid 1800's.

Thank you so much Laura heart and thank you for the help you gave me!

funny Laura, when I saw Isabelle's interest in glassmakers, I immediately thought of you.  Both of you can probably share lots of data. laugh

We are cousins and have been emailing for a while now.   She is a wonderful resource and her glass makers go back to the 1200s
