I am particularly interested in the County Down part of Northern Ireland, as that is where my ancestors emigrated from. I'd be happy to help out where and how I can.

I enjoy tracking down previously unknown family members, finding out the truth about family stories, and finally breaking brick walls. I hope that in helping with the Ireland project I will finally be able to break the brick wall I currently have for the parents of my ancestor who emigrated to New Zealand.

Thank you, Richard.

Yes I would like to be of help. My DNA apparently has me in Donegal, but I see that there are many of possible ancestors in County Louth and Wexford. My greatgrandfather was born in Canada in 1847, but his parents were born in Ireland. Have not been able to identify them however.
by John Quigley G2G5 (5.9k points)

Hi John, have you decided on a team yet?

You could join the Donegal Team and work on profiles from there.

Another option is the Ireland_Diaspora_Canada Team

A third option is Topics Team and do a One Name Study

Irish Diaspora - Canada Team would be a good place. I have done a bit of work in Wicklow, Donegal, Louth and Roscommon also.

I would like to join. At least some of my ancestors came from the Northern part of Ireland. Some of them could have come from elsewhere in Ireland. About one quarter of my DNA is Irish/Scottish/Welsh (MyHeritage lumps them all into the same ethnic group). But I know for sure that some of my ancestors came from Ireland. My great great great grandmother immigrated from Northern Ireland to the United States in the 1800s.

I tried registering for this 2 years ago now but got nowhere perhaps now might be my opportunity??

My natural mother came from Galmoy and had relatives in AbbeyLiex, Athy Kilkenny happy to help where I can

My DNA suggests my ancestors were from Connacht, West Roscommon, East Mayo and North and South Galway I have yet to find any of these!
My husband's family comes from Mountbellew paternal side and Dalkey maternal side

Hi Anon, Do you have a team you would like to join?

The topics team sounds interesting especially the

Earl Grey's Famine Orphan Scheme 1848-1850

If that is okay and possibly the county Laois team though the relatives I have found come from here or Kilkenny

Thanks Anon, I have you all signed up in the Topics Team and the Earl Grey's team on the Ireland Side.
Looks like you got the badge back in 2019
Thank you Not sure what I do next  but in mean time am chasing up a DNA match
Two of my ancestors were Earl Grey Orphans [[Donovan-1740|Elizabeth Donovan]] from Killarney, Co Kerry and [[McGee-2929|Bridget McGee]] from Kilkenny West, Co Westmeath.

I share a common interest in this topic, however I haven't seen any profile in Wikitree that would have been close to my ancestors.

I am definitely interested in helping with the Ireland project and most interested in Cootehill, County Cavan.  That's where my emigrant ancestor came across the puddle from.  I don't have enough data or time to be a project manager, but I am interested in that area of Ireland and would be happy to join that subgroup.

Hi Patti, Welcome to the Ireland Project and the County Cavan Team.

I would like to join the Ireland Project and look forward to helping as I can. My great grandfather, John Wellington Carson, emigrated to Canada from Northern Ireland in 1842. While my great-grandmother was born in Canada, her parents emigrated earlier from County Wexford.

Hi Fred. Do you have a Team you would like to join and help out in?
Thank you, Richard: I would be interested in helping with the Canada Project. I am also interested in the Ireland Project.

I'm glad to help the County Kerry Team.  I'm new to WikiTree teams, however, and unsure how they work.  So would need help there before I can help on the team itself.  :-)  Thanks!   - Mike

I haven't put my hand up for one of these before. I have no idea if I even know how to help. But if a newbie is any use, I would like to. I am from Australia with more Irish roots than any other ethnicity.
by Derry Talvainn G2G1 (1.6k points)

Hi Derry. Would you like to start off in the Ireland_Diaspora_Australia_-_New_Zealand Team?

I'm probably more interested to get to know our ancestors in Ireland, but both are interesting. But maybe researching Ireland from Australia  is a bit limited?

Welome to the Ireland Project, I signed you up in the Ireland Diaspora Australia Team for now, but you can work on Ireland profiles too, Have you seen our Space:Sources-Ireland-Province-County page? Near the top is a link to training on Irish sources.

Thank you.

Yes. I would be interested in joining this project…..my line is at a standstill in respect of Laurence Butler….his birthplace and family by his first wife, Catherine, are not known.  He was living in Ferns Wexford when arrested for his part in ‘the uprising’ in 1798, but there is no record there or in Dublin of his birth and marriage.  In the Australian Butler family, anecdotally they were held to believe that that branch of the family originated in Kilkenny and the name Ormond was carried through to two generations here in Australia, that I know of.

On the Tracey/Tracy side, the family lived in the Donegal and Londonderry areas, but the tracy line stops at my great grandfather and great grandmother, as does the McMinnamin line.
by Robyne Tracy G2G3 (4.0k points)

Hi Robyne, Do you have a team you would like to Join?

Hello Richard…..not sure whether I should join the Wexford team or Kilkenny?  As there is a very comprehensive Butler Family Blog which is obviously the result of some very thorough research on the part of Barbara Butler, I am inclined  to think that Laurence Ormond Butler may have been born and perhaps even married to Catherine, somewhere outside of the Wexford or Dublin areas.  Should I join the Kilkenny team and pursue whatever records of Butlers there are?  I am sure there are many, but whether Laurence can be found at this source I do not know.  Laurence seems to have recovered himself to good standing quite quickly after arriving in Sydney as a convict.  He is an interesting person.
Hi Robyne. I added you to the counties team so you can work all of them.
Hi Richard….just getting going again after finding cancer late last year and being on treatment ever since.  Down to tablets now for the next six months, but life is easier.  Didn’t want to leave the impression that I had not bothered to follow up with the invitation to join the Counties research.  Regards. Robyne

My dad's family are originally from a wee village in the Sperrin mountains, Feeny Co Londonderry my branch of the Deans family have been living in Gilford Co Down from the early '50s and I have been living in Waringstown from 83, I belong to a local community group and one of our aims is to highlight Waringstowns history with the linen industry so if I can be of any help.

I’d like to try helping out in the Dublin project.

My paternal 3rd G Grandfather, Francis Hill (bootmaker) b. Abt. 1813, and children Francis Charles Hill (2nd G Grandfather) b. 1842, and Isabella Hill b. 1847, were all born in Dublin. They migrated to Liverpool 1849 leaving extended family behind, descendants of whom were still there at least to the 1930s. I am trying to identify them. My 4th G Grandfather, Charles Hill, was a cabinet maker, but I know nothing more about him … yet.

My maternal 3rd G Grandfather, William Findley, and his son, William (2nd G Grandfather) b. 1826 were born somewhere in Ireland.

Well I cannot expect help if I do not offer the same.

My G-Grandmother (Anne, Annie) McV****ty  After McV* (Fill in the blanks, veighty, weety, vittie, vaty, etc, etc, etc)

The Ontario CA (ONLY the 2011 version) places  Annie  arriving 1889. It was apparently a common name by 1921 Census MANY 'Annie'  Showed up.

It's certain my G-Grandmother (eaux gawd help us) a Protestant ('Free Church') married a CATHOLIC (invoke C. Dickens again) the couple fled to Canada to evade the "Stigma"

(or so "oral history" states - repeatedly doesn't meant correctly)

It's interesting to note that before 1947, any emigrant to CA from another UK-Colony was "Naturalized" by default... Not so sure how this works with their "South of the Meridian" colony's or India....

Thanks in Advance

BC
