Could I have some guidance please as to which DNA test [or tests ? ] to take to hopefully further my genealogy research.

P.S.  It might help to add the "dna" tag to your post.

I am Australian and used family tree DNA (FTDNA) quick and easy. As I was for both myself and my son it was cost effective.
No I was not aware of this most informative link !  Thank You

Malcolm, it depends on what you want to investigate, and where you live.  It looks like you're Australian?  I'm not the best person to advise on that.  Different testing companies have different mixes of customer nationalities.

In general, if you want to verify all your ancestral lines, an autosomal test is best.  Ancestry is the largest test provider, so they might be your best bet, although as I've said, it depends on where you live.

If you are specifically interested in investigating your paternal line (presumably McGrice, unless you know of an adoption or something similar in your line), then a Y-DNA test is best.

If you have a lot of money, I'd say take both tests, and then test some of your relatives, particularly the oldest.

There are no McGrice or McGreece surname tests in FamilyTreeDNA.com, so I don't think a YDNA test would be of much help.

I would recommend an autosomal/FamilyFinder DNA test from 23andme.com or FamilyTreeDNA.com.  An autosomal DNA test will give you genetic matches on any of these surnames:  https://www.wikitree.com/treewidget/McGrice-37/10  You can ask your matches if any of these surnames are on their family tree.  If so, then you can search that family name to find your common auDNA ancestor that you share with the match.

Mitochondrial DNA is interesting if you want to know the ancient origins of your maternal line of foremothers, but I have not had success finding mtDNA living cousins.
