1870 Census for Franklin Olliff shows a young, black male

The 1870 census for the Franklin Olliff, Olliff-50, family shows a young black male, age 13, working as a farm laborer, living with the family. This is only a few years after the end of the Civil War.  I looked around the census at other homes in the area and there are no families named Goodman.  Maybe it is a name he took after the war, or his family?  I created a profile for him, but is there any way I can help in other ways for Black Heritage records? I did look for slave schedules for Franklin but have not found any yet.  Feel like the young man is just in the wind now.  Thanks.

Betty, The first best thing to do is to identify him as an "African American" with this sticker:

{{African-American Sticker}}

Then add the category: "USBH Heritage Exchange, Needs Connection"

(I have done both of these additions for you.)

The next best thing (which you have already done) is to post in G2G, which will draw others attention to him!  Also, I like how you linked him to the Olliff family in his bio, and put a link to him in the Franklin Olliff bio!  Kudos!

Bartley,

Thank you very, very much.  I was worried he would not be found due to his young age.  I wasn't sure what I could do.  Thank you for the additional help and telling me what I need to do.  (Still learning about the changes to the slavery categories cuz I wasn't here much for a couple of years.) You have been so helpful.  Thank you.
Bartley,

Whenever I run across someone living with the family I try to make note of it in the bios and profiles if I have to create them.  If I am tired I might forget to do so, but I do try to remember to do that. :)
You are setting a good example for us all!
Bartley,

Hope so. His age really bothers me.  Where is his family?  Made me sad.

Betty
