This is the Germany Genies chat page for the 2021 Source-a-thon!

Hello Genies! It's Source-a-thon time! We're starting Friday morning, October 1 at 8:00 AM EDT and the event runs until Monday October 4 at 8:00 AM EDT.

Registration for the thon is now OPEN, just click this LINK and post an answer on the 2021 Source-a-thon join post.

If this is your first Thon, the Germany Genies welcome everyone interested in sourcing German (or any other) profiles. Visit our team page for more info.

If you have resources and/or helpful tips to share, this is the place to do so. It’s also a good place to give us updates on your progress, ask for and give help, etc. You can start your own thread below by answering this question.

REMEMBER that you will need to use the Tracker for this thon, otherwise your contributions won't count toward team/individual totals (but all reliable sources added are appreciated, whether they're counted or not!).

We'll be using this page and the Germany Project Discord channel on the WikiTree server to communicate. If you're not already on Discord, see this page for instructions on how to join. If you have any troubles, just let me know.

This will be fun! Whether you source one profile or 1,000, every contribution is appreciated and is welcomed!

I look forward to the Thon and I hope we have a lot of fun.

Good luck for all who are "fighting" with the Germany Genies and all other teams as well.

Hi there, if possible I would very much appreciate help with sourcing my grandfathers’ mother Katherine (Müller-3966) and her sister Eva (Müller-3975). l struggle with German both the language and the writing. Regards Vicki

Where they are born?
Hi Dieter, that is what I am not sure of. I think maybe Oberesseling am Rhine? Eva was married thereand my grandfather was born there.
That is a problem at the moment. There are no records avaible for that town (district) at the moment on archion or matricula.

This will be my first Source-a-thon, and my first thon with the Germany Genies. One basic question - do we get to venture into Austria? In other words, where does "Germany" end? I have a great-grandmother from Bohemia, and wondered if I could put her parents into the "unsourced|Germany" list.

I am looking forward to the thon!

Hi Pilla! You can add sources to ANY profile, whether it's a German profile or not. Sources added to Bohemian, Austrian, American, Chinese, etc. profiles all count as a point towards our team score.

If you have unsourced profiles in your own family tree, you can certainly source them and those will count as well.

You do NOT have to work off the project's unsourced list. If you add a source to any profile that is marked with the {{Unsourced}} template (or one that is in an unsourced category), it will count. One thing to remember, if you're working from the unsourced profiles list attached to our team page, that list only includes profiles of people who were born in or died in Germany.

Also, during this thon we will be adding sources to existing profiles. Adding new sourced profiles does not count during this thon (unlike the Connect-a-Thon).

Does the info above make sense? Let me know if you have any other questions and I will be sure to get back to you ASAP.

Thanks,

Traci

Thanks, Traci. I was trying to sneak my ancestors onto our list in order to get the real German experts to look at them! That's why I asked about "unsourced|Germany" specifically. I just added {{unsourced}} with no country for Henry Liebl of Bohemia. Smile.
You can add unsourced|Germany to your relative's profile, but I doubt if they'll get picked up during the Source-a-thon as there are 35,000 unsourced profiles on our to do list. You'd be better off asking for help in the project's Google Group. ;-)
