DNA Connections

A recently added person (Grant-18463) has my name in her DNA Connections, as well as a gentleman (Allan-3949) who died in 1749. I doubt that he has taken a DNA test, but is probably a relation. My name should be there - no doubt it is a wee glitch that has put the other name there too

I see what you mean. Somehow, Allan-3949 was designated as having had a test on MyHeritage.

The manager of that profile, Bill Allan was tested at MyHeritage, so he apparently made the error. I don't see how to fix it in the "Edit" mode, so maybe it's one of those things that only the profile manager can do. I suggest sending Mr Allan (the living one!) a message about it.

Looks like someone incorrectly added DNA test information to the profile.  DNA information automatically propagates back through the ancestors/relatives of the test-taker. Only someone who actually took a  DNA test should be marked “DNA tested.”

I’ve added https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Allan-3949 to the misplaced DNA category [[Category: DNA Test Misplaced]]

Thanks for this, Peter. I didn't even know a "DNA Test Misplaced" Category existed.

Considering the significant and understandable confusion test information added to an incorrect profile can cause (especially since we began displaying estimating DNA sharing percentages)--and an assumption that not even DNA Project Team Leads or Coordinators can edit test information for Open profiles unless on the trusted list--I wonder if it might be possible to have this Category be highlighted so that a banner appears in the biography box, something akin to what's done today with the "Unsourced Profiles" maintenance Category?

If the incorrect test information can't be changed by Project volunteers, I think this is a condition that readers would want to be alerted to at the top of the biography. I spent some time searching through the Categorization Project and the Profile Improvement Project, but couldn't find any reference to initiating a request like this.

The numbers won't be huge, but they don't seem to be insignificant. A quick Google search yielded 537 hits and, of the first three pages of results, I found 6 that were definitely incorrect: autosomal DNA test takers with death dates ranging from 1918 to 1960. So on average, that's 10% of 60 samples, extrapolated to about 53 profiles. The search I used only considered autosomal DNA, so I imagine there are yDNA and mtDNA tests misattributed, as well. I'll go ahead and add the "DNA Test Misplaced" Category to the ones I located.
Thanks Edison. Yes it would be good if there was an alert that was easy to see.  Getting the misplaced DNA fixed or removed would also be helpful.  There are just a few which are DNA results extracted from human remains. I wonder if a project like this falls into the realm of the Data Doctors?
Sysops can remove these, rather than add more warnings to profiles it might just be better to email info@ to let us know. I'll work on removing the ones that are currently in the category.
