looking for relatives in scotland from McNair, MacDougall, or Campbell clan...I have cousins in Scotland, but have lost track of them...last realtive is Billy Stewart in Renfrew known in 1945

My family came to US with  surname Christie 1700's, McNair 1890's, but Stewart, MacDougall, Campbell do not seem to have come to the US...and are still in Scotland..

Hello Patti,

The best place to find records for people in Scotland is http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ it is the official Government site for the registar general & holds all Birth Marriage & death records for the whole of Scotland. It also carries probates, wills, census records & much more. it is free to join & search, but you have to pay to view the results, however you get to keep the digital images of the certificates for the people you find. However you can also use WikiTree to see if there are relative profiles already on WikiTree & also using Family Search https://familysearch.org/ may help you find people s well as it is free site & may be useful before using Scotlandspeople to obtain certificates.

Unfortunately the last census in the archives available to the public is the 1911 year one. Also there are links for other resources in the U.K. project & Scottish Clans project here on WikiTree. Currently the population of Renfrew is around 170,000 people.

All the best

Billy

I do belong to scotlandspeople.gov.uk, I continue to try to find relatives still in Scotland as I have been researching my ancestry for a number of years. Unfortunately, all relatives that have any real information have passed. The only picture that I have is from my father who had it taken in 1945 in Refrew with "cousin Billy Stewart"...but I have no further information.

I will continue to use the resources that you named. Thanks so much for your help.

Best regards,

patti christie miller
