Strange merge requests NOT made by me

I am on my  "Browse Matches" page. Although it says in the description that these are not family members, the people on the list ARE family members. What's wigging me out is that they all say they were initiated by me and none of them were. In some cases, they aren't even close to being a match. For example, my grandmother, who is Aletha Saunders, is proposed as a match with "Shelley Buerger."

I changed my password, (although why anyone would want to hack a tree is beyond me), but how do I get rid of these fake merge requests - and stop them from occurring?

Thanks in advance

You seem to have waited an hour with no response, so I'll answer, even though I'm unsure of what the problem is.

When I go to Aletha Saunders's profile, I don't see any pending merges, just a long list of rejected merges.  Is it possible you've misunderstood the requests?  Or, if you got requests, whether the sender thought better of them?  Is there any contact information for the merge requests so that you can ask the person what they intended?

Could all those rejected matches be cause by someone doing a gedcompare?
Hi Julie,

I go to my own page, (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Heiden-11) then choose "pending merges" from the "find" dropdown menu.

The merge requests say they are from me. It has the two names to merge, and the second line says

"Initiated by Amber Dennis"

It also says "Last updated 2018-11-01"

Color me confused.
I'm confused too.  Can you remove the merge requests?
Hi Melanie. I don't know what that is, but I know I didn't initiate those matches deliberately.

A gedcompare is when you import a gedcom file and  cannot create profiles until you've compared them with existing profiles that appear similar.  (And that's about t he limit of my knowledge about the ged process!)

2018 is three years ago.

Yes, Melanie. Some of them are from awhile ago, but some are from 2020.

I didn't initiate them. I don't know how to delete them.

When you click on Pending Merges under find - that brings up all the current pending merges across WikiTree. They are just ones that you made or merges on profiles you manage.

To see just your merges, you need to click on either Pending Merges Initiated by Me or Pending Merges Awaiting Action by Me.

When you look at the "pending merges" from the "find" menu there are a number of options at the top to choose which types to view. I wonder if you may (accidentally) have selected "Rejected Matches Initiated by Me"? So you aren't actually seeing current merge requests, you are actually seeing ancient match rejections.

When I look at my "Rejected Matches Initiated by Me" list I have the same text that you mention about them not being family members (even though they are). They also all say "Last updated 2018-11-01". In fact they are actually matches I rejected when I created the profiles on various different dates before then, so I think there must have been a system change on that date that changed the displayed dates on all previous rejected matches.

I think that's what I'm looking at, Paul. Could it be referring to the rejection being 'initiated' by me? I did not initiate these matches. They are totally wack a doodle. But if I was asked about these, I'd definitely reject them. Is it possible the rejection of the match is what I 'initiated?'

Thanks for the help, you all

As you say, I think what you 'initiated' is the rejection of the match. So when you are creating a new profile and you tick some of the boxes to save rejected matches for suggested matches that are wrong but close, the ones that have been marked appear on the "Rejected Matches Initiated by Me" list.

This is exactly what I needed to know. Thank you, Paul!

And thanks to everyone else who helped along the way!

Amber
