Dutch Ancestors

Question

Looking for ancestors who came to Nieuw Amsterdam / Nieuw Nederlands:

Family Names ( to date) are

Enyard, Van Winkle, Ackerman, Peeck, Vreelandt, Dormus, Brouwer, Vonk, Gerritzen, Van Woggelum, Tullis, Van Keuren, Staats, and Huybert.  All of these lines have been found in the Perrine ( a Huguenot family from Jersey, Channel Islands, which settled on Staten Eylant, Nieuw Nederland )

Many of my English ancestors arrived in New England via Holland as "Non-conformists", some of whom married Dutch women and started their families there before emigrating.

Hi John, welcome keep on mind dat the Dutch name is probebly van Winkel, but all surenames start with van and not with Van.

That answers several questions because the van, like the von, appears indiscriminately on the various websites.  Some of them from Dutch speakers who should know better.

From what I have recently read on a Geni website, patronymics only began to be introduced as a result of the confusion over the older usage of incorporating the father's first name as the child's last name.  I understand that still a problem in Iceland.

A patronimic is the fathers first name used as - a kind of - last name. So the name changes every generation.

That's right Eef, but the "van" has several meanings in Dutch, it can mean of in son of, in Dutch ,zoon van ,or from like from Holland in Jan van Holland.
