Was Lautenthal in Kingdom of Hanover or Duchy of Brunswick?

Question

One of my ancestors, Friedrich Heinrich Wilhelm Schlüter (1831 - 1907), was reportedly born in 1831 at Lautenthal, a German village in the Upper Harz between Goslar and Seesen. At that time, it is not clear to me whether Lautenthal was in the Duchy of Brunswick or the Kingdom of Hanover?

The most detailed map I found so far was at https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/81/Hannover_Oldenburg_Braunschweig_1905.png - I think that Lautenthal would right on the border between the G and O of the word Goslar.

Basically, does anyone have access to more detailed map of the border, or something else which indicates which side Lautenthal was considered?

Lautenthal was founded 1538 and became city rights in 1580 and in 1596 it became a free city (Bergstadt)

Hello Troy. I have been away from my computer for a week and catching up.
Dieter's year by year guide is extremely useful. In the year's of Friedrich's birth (1831) and emigration (1850), Lautenthal was in the independent Kingdom of Hanover and a member of the German Confederation.
Hanover was annexed by Prussia in 1866, when George's answer is accurate.
