GEDI Challenge (October 2021)

Hi WikiTreers,

Will you join our GEDImprove (GEDI) Challenge this month?

Remember to track your contributions for Source-A-Thon when you add a source to a previously unsourced profile.

If you follow the "whole profile approach" then your contributions can count for both the Thon and GEDI. Otherwise, we hope to see you after the Thon; there are many GEDCOM imported profiles that need work.

For this challenge, improve profiles created from old GEDCOM imports, using a "whole profile approach" described on the GEDI Space Space. From the spreadsheet, pick a GEDCOM, click on the GEDCOM to open the tab, select a profile, then update the spreadsheet to note that you are working on the profile and to update the status when completed.

There is no individual challenge scoring, but we are tracking our collaborative effort for the month, and showing our progress on individual GEDCOM. You will gain contributions, and we are collectively improving the tree. During September there were nearly 600 profiles improved. Also, many GEDCOM profiles were reviewed to prepare for Source-A-Thon. This resulted in more than 700 suggestions cleared, 2300 style issues resolved and the Unsourced tag added to nearly 4300 profiles.

Might as well do this challange too. Already doing the Source-a-thon. New to all of this but I learn kind of fast.

The other day, I was preparing for the SAT and someone added a whole bunch of new profiles to the dyer2010 sheet. I marked a bunch that I planned to work this weekend. And the new entries have disappeared. There were 10 screens of names that started with A alone. What happened?

Were you looking at the GEDI tab for dyer gedcom?  We don't touch those sheets once we load them.  If you look at the gedcom profiles from wikitree +, you would have extra profiles that we don't have in the GEDI because we only have 3000 records from that gedcom in our spreadsheet for the large ones

I was in the spreadsheet and thought I saw that new items had been added. I think I somehow ended up in a different sheet without going back to the link on the GEDI page. Don't know what happened, but I cleaned up a bunch of Axtell profiles anyway. I can't go back and make comments because I don't know which sheet they were on.

Thanks to all who participated in Source-A-Thon and also the GEDI Challenge.

For the 35 GEDCOM on the current GEDI list, there were

• 1858 profiles improved overall
• 805 profiles improved and tracked via GEDI
• 1021 suggestions cleared
• 833 style issues addressed

That means about 2000 GEDCOM-related profiles sourced.

Will the spreadsheets that are not complete remain open for the November Challenge?

Obviously, I am still working on the Dyer spreadsheet.
