Tommy Kirk, most noted for his work as the young boy who had to put "Old Yeller" down died today. It was announced on FB. He was in a number of Disney Films, co-starring with the likes of Kevin Corcoran and Tim Considine.

I do not know if we have a profile for him as yet. I am truly saddened and I grew up with this gang of child actors.

In addition to Shaggy and Flubber and Old Yeller, another popular film of his was Swiss Family Robinson. I recall taking six young girls to a drive in movie for Swiss Family Robinson around 1970, about 10 years after it came out, and the girls, ranging from 7 to 14 all fell in love with Tommy Kirk. My brother and I just found Old Yeller to be our favorite.

One of my favorite movies!! Also, the Hardy Boys & my dad loved Old Yeller. Rest in Peace, Mr. Tommy Kirk, and peace to your loved ones.

Plus The Shaggy Dog and Son of Flubber, both wonderful old films.

Thank you, Carol, for posting this. It's always so sad to hear of our childhood favorites dying. I had seen all of the movies shown in this post, and even have all of them on VHS.
