Online Newspapers

I find Newspapers.com quite useful, but it's expensive.

Here are two online newspaper sites that I also find useful.  They are free, and sometimes have papers that newspapers.com doesn't...

Historic Oregon Newspapers (University of Oregon)
https://oregonnews.uoregon.edu/

California Digital Newspaper Collection (U.C. Riverside)
https://cdnc.ucr.edu/

Does anyone know of similar sites for other states?  (I really wish I could find one for Wisconsin!)

Advantage Preservation has digitized a treasure trove of public domain newspapers.  They work with libraries, historical societies, and genealogical organizations to digitize their newspaper collections.  They are concentrated in the midwest.  https://directory.advantage-preservation.com/SiteDirectory

Another underappreciated site is LDS Genealogy.  They host a directory of available records for most U.S. locations.  Their newspaper link directory, free, pay, and offline, can be viewed here:  https://ldsgenealogy.com/newspapers-obituaries/

The Dufferin Museum located in Dufferin County, Ontario, Canada has records for over 100 mostly Canadian newspapers. The records include births, marriages, deaths, obituaries, burials, other social events, some court proceedings, land sales, business openings and closings, crimes.

Many of these records include names of relatives, guests, doctors, etc that can really help connect family members.

There are also many links to history and family history related sites. Far too many to list here.

The Austrian National Library has a huge repository of a lot of the newspapers published in the territories included in the Habsburg Empire. Many of them start as far as the mid-1700. There are a lot of local newspapers published in German, French, Italian, Polish and Czech.

Even if the site is in German only, it's very easy and straightforward to use (and FREE).

For Minnesota, the Minnesota Digital Newspaper Hub, courtesy of the Minnesota Historical Society, is a good resource:
