I have seen reported James died 1856 but never any thing to verify. Can you guide me to verification. Thanks

Have you checked the recorder's office at the Choctaw or Henry County Alabama courthouses, or at the local libraries in those counties?,  Also check cemetary or probate records under the name of James W Whatley. Census records indicate his last residence in 1850 was in Henry Co Alabama.
