Am I related directly to anyone famous?

I know silly question and I’m sure everyone has the same curiosity but in my genealogy I haven’t found any notable or otherwise I’m directly related to and I’ve been working on genealogy for a few years now. However I find every ancestor special and intriguing to some degree. I have many cousin relations to the notables such as President General Ulysses Grant and other presidential ancestors but nothing direct.. anyway had to ask at least once laugh

Thank you wikitree family

Yes.  The hard part is proving it.  Keep at it Andrew!

LoL exactly ! laugh

I gave up worrying about such things, although I do still have  the occasional visit of the green-eyed monster when I see so many folk posting their descendancy, or cousin relationship, to our weekly features.  I'm not directly related to anyone anyone else considers "famous", although I do have notables within 4 generations.
Aw, gee, cuz Melanie.  You're related to me (remember our 16th century Scottish MRCA?) and I've been called infamous (among a few other unflattering things) ... does that make you feel any better?

Dear cousin Gaile -- infamous is a whole nother ballgame.  cheeky

(I still have a copy of that MRCA on the tablet.  angel)

Simpier-2 (Andrew Simpier) has 46 unique ancestors and 66 duplicate ancestors (additional lines of descent from a unique ancestor) within 20 generations who meet the European Aristocrats list criteria https://apps.wikitree.com/apps/ashley1950/ancestorexplorer/?id=Simpier-2

EDIT: These are just ancestors. You probably are related to many famous people as some level of cousin to some degree.

Andrew,

It also depends upon what you consider to be famous... According to what is in WikiTree, you are the 10th Great Grandson of Rebecca (Briggs) Cornell, one of the subjects of the book "Killed Strangely: The Death of Rebecca Cornell by Elaine Forman Crane". Or if you want to go further back beyond what what is in the list finder which is capped at 20 generations, your 21st great grandfather is James Butler, 1st Earl of Ormonde, dig a bit deeper, and even more famous would be your 23rd great grandfather, Edward I (Longshanks), King of England (think of the movie "Braveheart") or your 27th great grandfather  Louis VI (Capet) King of France So it really just depends on how far back you want to dig.

All I did was compare you to me, and then look at the drop down list  halfway down the page under "Explore more: 181 common ancestors were found between Andrew and Ken." Took less than 10 minutes to find a few "famous ancestors".

Hope this helps,

Ken

It definitely helps and very interesting. Thank you so much laugh

You're welcome!

King Edward I is really interesting as this line is better sourced. I knew I was related to the Plantagenet and not the Tudors.

Like me, you may be descended from the Plantagenet line, but are probably cousins to the Tudors.
Anyone descended from the Plantagenet Kings  is by default related to the Tudors, the Stewarts/Stuarts, the Hanoverian line, and the Windsor line - because they are all Plantagenets.

That’s interesting they are all related somehow. Maybe there is a direct line to the Tudor side but so far only cousin matches. laugh

Andrew, you are my 17th cousin x 5. We are related thru Katherine (Mortimer) de Beauchamp, Countess of Warwick.

I think that counts!  ;)

I think so! Very cool laugh

This is her on Wikitree Katherine (Mortimer) de Beauchamp (abt. 1314 - abt. 1369). I’m her 21st great grandson it appears on my maternal side! Thank you for pointing her out for me laugh

Looks like you have a little Magna Carta action going on there too through James Butler, 1st Earl of Ormonde (and probably others). Oh, and one of your famous cousins.... Calvin Coolidge!  So what I want to know is... With all these famous ancestors, why the heck am I not famous, or rich, or own a castle, or a country???? What the heck went wrong?

LoL yea good point laugh I just need a time machine to figure it out wink
