spouses with the same surname

Several of my family have married spouses with the same surname as their own. Why is this not shown in the WikiTree watchlist? I think it should show for examaple Alice Maud (Reffell) Reffell instead of just Alice Maud Reffell.

Hi Edwin,

This isn't possible because of WikiTree's unique structure.

We require all profiles to have both a Last Name at Birth (LNAB) and a Current Last Name (CLN). If you don't enter a CLN when the profile is created, it's automatically set as a copy of the LNAB.

Everywhere names are displayed, our system checks to see if the LNAB and CLN are the same. If they are, only the LNAB is displayed.

So, in order to do what you're asking, we would have to display both names for everyone, even when they're the same.

Other systems might be different, if their current/married name isn't a required field. They could simply display the CLN if it exists and ignore it if not.
