Hi everyone!

imageIt's time to get to know another one of our wonderful WikiTreers. This week's member is Christine Preston.

Christine became a Wiki Genealogist in February of 2016. She is one of our Cemeterists and a Team Leader in the 1776 Project. She also enjoys participating in the US Civil War project.

What are some of the surnames you are researching?

Pierson/Pearson (Triplets), Preston, Wilcox, Campbell (Pine Creek Line/Argyll), McKee, Wurster, Smith, Burson, Brashears, Ager, Schneider (Saarland, Germany)

What are some of the locations you are researching?

Scotland, Pennsylvania, Ireland, Germany, Prussia

When and how did you get interested in genealogy and family history?

Since I was in college.

Who's your favorite ancestor and why?

My Oma, she was a Schneider. My Oma was a soup maiden in Germany during World War II. I have seen a photo of her with her soldiers and they loved her like a mother. It makes her and them real. I look just like her as do all of the girls in my family.

Tell us about a brick wall you hope to bust through.

Ager family. We have found my great grandfather's real father but I still have no idea exactly where his family was from on his mother’s side.

If you could pick one person in history to be related to, who would it be and why?

Rhianon Gelsomino. She is an Australian who is a female Co-Driver in American League Rally Racing with Travis Pastrana. Her husband is her competitor, and they love each other and playfully compete while still teaching co-driver classes.

What are some of your interests outside of genealogy?

I restore tombstones in my county. I write a blog about the local veterans in the county as well. Outside of this I spend time with my children and love playing video games with my husband. I enjoy Rally Racing and cars with my friends.

How long have you been on WikiTree and what do you spend the most time doing?

I have been a member for a few years now. I am the 1776 Sticker Team leader and am working to change over the old 1776 sticker to the new format. I am a Cemeterist and working to add cemeteries into the category tree. I also enjoy the Civil War group by adding to the regiments.

What brought you to WikiTree?

Google. I use this place as an additional research tool and a place to provide resources for those not wanting to subscribe to Ancestry.

What is your favorite thing about WikiTree, or which feature(s) do you like the most?

Categories. You can see who else was in that category.

If you could improve one thing about WikiTree, what would it be?

GED profiles that are not updated. I wish that these would transfer better so that others did not have to manually change them because they usually don’t update the page for some time.

What is an example of how WikiTree has helped you with your genealogy?

Collaboration among fellow relatives. I have found a few unknown cousins in my tree and broke a few brick walls.

Any tips for someone just starting out on WikiTree?

Do not be afraid to make a mistake. You can always fix it and learn from them.

Congratulations Christine on being nominated for Wonderful WikiTreer of the week.

Nice that we share a lot of hobbies like gardening, reading and travelling.

Nice to hear from your Oma; I remember both my Omas Emma and Herta very well. I loved them both.

Congratulations, Christine, and thank you for all you do for our tree.  How wonderful you were able to trace your Scots Irish Campbells all the way back to Scotland!  My Douglas connection to Ireland is a complete brick wall.

Hi Christine, thank you for a very fine 'Meet our Members'. Your work on tombstones is very interesting and very needed.

We are distant cousins, 16/1xr through common ancester John Epes. I especially love it when the Members I meet have a cousin connection...near or distant.
