So I conducted a chunk of research (pro bono) for someone else. I put the results into my genealogy software. I'm not related. None of the information was in WikiTree. So I generated and uploaded a GEDCOM. It's been matchbotted and accepted and put online. The email I received that it's ready says this:
1.) Merge with your account profile
Does your GEDCOM start with you? If so, you'll want to merge the GEDCOM-created profile into your account profile.
First click to the GEDCOM-created profile for you. It will be listed on the GEDCOM report page and on your Watchlist.
Scroll to the bottom of that profile and find the link that says "initiate a merge." Enter Smith-32867 (the WikiTree ID for your account profile) in the second field.
If your GEDCOM started with one of your nuclear relatives instead of you, click the appropriate link in the right column of your profile's Edit page and enter the relative's WikiTree ID there.
Since I'm not related to anyone in this tree, do I need to do any of the above? Do I just leave as is? (these are all dead folks)
I *will* probably change the privacy settings so anyone can edit these pages.
Anything else I need to know/do? I realize this is not the typical way the average use may use WikiTree, but I can completely imagine doing pro bono research and wanting to add it here.
