Help! I was attempting to correct the wife on a profile I adopted. I accidentally conflated wife and mother

I adopted a profile Raymond L. Bridgman-341, also his son Percy Bridgman-340 and his wife. Percy's wife was not listed, but was easy to find, so I added her Olive Ware-4969. Then I looked at Raymond's profile and realized the wife listed was actually his mother. Same first name, different last names. By trying to correctly straighten them out, I accidentally made it worse. Raymond's wife is Mary Ann Marie Williams-104958. But that profile now contains the vital records information of his mother, Mary Nutting born 1820. Mary Williams was born in 1848.

I'm beginning to believe these profiles were abandoned because someone else tried to sort this out and gave up. I want to learn how to give Raymond both is mother and his wife. Percy is a Notable as he won the Nobel Prize. We are 8th cousins 3 times removed, which is how I found him. Thanks for any help you can give me.

IF you have merged 2 profiles that should not have been merged, then you will have to create a new one.

You now have a Williams LNAB profile, so you need to make a Nutting profile again.  I would add a Research Notes section in both profiles with the 'original' Nutting profile ID so if someone is looking for that Nutting ID, they are pointed to the correct Nutting ID.

Once you have the information from each in the correct profile, then you can get them linked to the correct profiles.  Research Notes will be very important in those 2 profiles.

Merging incorrect profiles happens frequently, so don't beat yourself up.  Families had kids with the same names and then the guys had wives with the same names.  Very difficult to keep the generations all separated correctly.

Unfortunately, I tried that. When I attempted to add the Nutting information to a new profile, I was told that person already existed and was sent to the Williams profile. When I try to delete Williams LNAB from Bridgman-341 in mother position, both iterations of the Williams LNAB disappear. Whatever I did, I managed to combine the two women into a single profile. What I need to do now is separate them or delete both and start again.

Thanks for your help.

Oh, I had to add Mary Nutting as the wife of Richard B. Bridgman, not the mother of Raymond L. Bridgman! Now that I have created her, I will see what I can do about her daughter-in-law. Thank you very much.

I sent you a private message.  I think I have them straightened out now.
