Emil Scheitlin was born in Switzerland on Jan 25, 1844 and enlisted in Co D, 149 IL Inf at Mascoutah, Illinois on Feb 13, 1865. He was mustered out Jan 27, 1866 in Dalton, GA. His rank was 2Lt. He was possibly the younger brother of William Scheitlin, also from Switzerland and living in Mascoutah. William died in Mascoutah in 1888 and is buried in Mascoutah City Cemetery.
