I'm using GEDCOMpare. What advantage is there to also building my family tree from scratch in WikiTree?

Based on reading comments in G2G, it is easier to build from scratch (manually). I suggest ʻSearchingʻ G2G, (using the box above left), for GedCom and reading the experiences and questions that come up.

Also, read all the ʻHelpʻ regarding GedCom.

At the very least, enter a few profiles manually before you try a small GedCom.

You have some good advice from Kristina, Tim.

This is a hot button issue here, as you will discover if you read a few of the discussions. I added my family manually and I think the advantage is that you can make sure the information and formatting is correct. And you will learn things along the way, too!

The gedcom process is involved and requires work to cleanup the profiles afterwards.

So, definitely give this some thought and try making a few by hand first. Then try a very small gedcom, if you decide to try that option.

It's your choice, in the end.

By creating and editing profiles manually, we learn how WikiTree works, and we gain experience and develop our work habits.

Once we've built this foundation, we generally will find working with GEDCOMpare much easier and more intuitive.

I agree with what others have said.

GEDCOMpare works very well if your source data contains all the key elements. It saves time with much of the data transfer and editing, however you should make an upload of 10 people and try it. This will show you if there are problems with your source data that should be corrected before proceeding.
