What is the correct way to enter the maiden name of a woman at her birth.

The maiden name is entered into the Last Name at Birth.

It should be noted that "maiden name" and "last name at birth" are not always the same. An example of when they are not the same is when an adoptive surname is used.

edit: In such cases, the "maiden name" would be entered in either the current last name field or other last name(s) field.

At WikiTree, we should think in terms of birth surname/last name at birth, not maiden name.

I understand that the Maiden name is entered into the last name at birth, however the edit button will not open. I see from a previous post that only a profile manager can edit this. Is that correct?

Anyone on the Trusted List of a profile can change the Last Name at Birth, but it should not be done without firm sources to back it up.
