I often have this issue. The error:The file has no extension (like ".jpg) Yet it *does* have an extension and i can open it in many programs. I rename, convey to another format. ... Does anyone know what is wrong? Most of my images upload fine.

Do you have any special characters in the file names? That may be confusing the upload program.

I have once or twice seen cases (at my work) where people had problems with image files because the extension had an extraneous period at the end of the name, for example: filename.jpg. Some software wouldn't care - it would determine the file type by looking inside the file, other software only looked at the file name and would not recognize it without fixing the extension.

If your operating system hides file extensions (by default MS Windows did the last time I used it) it might be worth unhiding file extensions and having a look.

^What Rob said. Also if you are on a mac, it tends to drop the extension.
