Strategies for keeping track of folks who need profiles created...

...but you don't have time to do it right at the moment?

I'm talking about the situations where you come across a name that needs a profile--and maybe they've got 10 or 11 children, but you just don't have the time to add them because you're hot on the trail of something else, or running in several directions at once, and inevitably one of those 10 or 11 children will lead to a major can 'o' worms so better not even start down that trail....

I've done a couple of different things, neither of which is particularly satisfying. One is to create the profile for the father or mother (or both), and then simply list the names of the children under Research Notes, along with any pertinent links that go along with their names.

And if for some reason it's not a good time to even create the parent's profile, I've got a free space profile where I stash names (and pertinent links I happened across) of people who need to have profiles created, along with a note as to where they belong (i.e. so-and-so's son or grandson).  I also have another free space profile with links to existing profiles that need more work.

It seems like there ought to be some easier way to do this sort of thing and keep track of it all.... Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd love to hear them. Thanks.

Robyn, the discussion rules state we are not to stray off the topic - and trying to answer a question within a question would be doing just that.  If someone (in this case Jane) wants to know about categories for problems they don't have time to fix, or contradictory information, then they should be asking their own, separate, question - because it isn't about keeping track of profiles needing to be created.

Brief answers aren't meant to be rude, but to avoid straying off-topic.

If you wish to know about free space pages, feel free to send me a private message, and I'll do my best to explain what I do with them.

Jane and Robin, Tommy recommended Personal Categories, which I use and it is definitely a possibility to use for yourself, but as I posted below, there is a statement on the Help page that indicates changes are coming, although not stated.

This page will show you some of the other Maintenance Categories that can be used, similar to Needs Profiles Created

Thanks guys & gals :)

I'm off topic but I wish there was a name called "Profiles" on the dropdown menu that you could just click on and it would show 'all' the profiles that you're the PM of. Since I finished PIP I know I have a whole lot of profiles that go from a fender bender to a total train wreck. Nothing that would show up in Suggestions. I'd just like to look them over and polish them up now that I know so much more than I did on day one! Oh well, I'm in the Sourcerer Challenge so there's plenty to do!

Take Care! :o)
To see your managed profiles - My Wikitree > Watchlist.
Well how easy was that?? Thank you SO much! I read about that list and thought it just had close family members lol. None said "Unsourced" so I wasn't sure just what I was supposed to be watching. I'll have to check into it more and find out what it's for. That sounds laughable but I really don't get why I'm watching them. They must need something or they wouldn't be there, right? Time to do some more reading.

Thank you! :D
Robyn, I sent you a private message (it will go to your email).

Robyn, Watch List is all the profiles that you are PM of, as well as any that you are on the Trusted List for.  As PM, we are supposed to be 'watching' the profiles to make sure everything is correct. Review the Help Page for Watchlist.

The Unsourced tab gives a list of the profiles that have the {{Unsourced}} sticker on them.  It doesn't mean that other profiles are 'sourced', only that they don't have the 'sticker' on them.

Thanks Linda, I didn't think about the sticker having to be on there! Amazing what you can learn in one little sentence, wow. It really must have taken major collaboration to put this place together! 100 families of prairie dogs have nothing on Wikitree!! (haha). Almost everything you learn here is by experience ..and one step at a time.

Thanks again, I'll go check that list! :o)
I thought I should throw in a quick apology, I truly didn't know there was a rule about sticking to one subject, I thought it was a discussion group, in which case we'd be all over the place! I've learned several things on this thread, one is to learn more about the rules. Thank you All! I appreciate the help :)
As you said, it is all a learning experience

Hi Carolyn,

You may also be interested in using Personal Categories. Details here:

Thanks, Tommy... I'll have a look at that one too, maybe do a little experimenting. But not when it's past my bedtime. :D
Yes, Personal Categories are the way to go to create your own to-do lists!
Be careful with Personal Categories because there is a warning on that page that a change may be coming with their use.
Thanks for the heads up, Linda!
