Suggestion for welcome/home page

On both my computers the blurb/welcome text and image are so large the search box doesn't appear without a little bit of scrolling. I remember the first time I came to WikiTree I thought the page was nothing but an advertisement. If you reduced the size of that (pointless) image the search box would be immediately visible. Thanks.

On my computer, the Wikitree image search bar is halfway dow the viewable part of the page. Maybe you could change your resolution so you see more page.
As I responded below, the point isn't really how I can change my settings to accommodate Wikitree's design decisions. The point is what new visitors see when they come to this site. I guarantee that if on both of my computers (which do not have unusual settings) the blurb and the image take up all the space, then that will be the experience of a significant number of new visitors. They will see - a whole lot of nothing. It doesn't lead to action.

On your internet browser, if you go to setting, and unfortunately here, every internet browser will be different, how much have you got the page zoomed in, or what is the text size for your browser page? If you adjust that, does it make a difference?

If I bump up one size (ctrl+) on my laptop I see this problem and also if I make my browser window slightly less than full size. I think the responsive design could use some help so that the background image is a percentage and not an absolute size (Rendered size: 442 x 450 px)
Thank you W Robertson! The point is not whether *I* see only the blurb and the picture. I could certainly change browser settings to accommodate this extravagant design. The point to me was, what people new to Wikitree see. It looks like an advertisement, a whole lot of nothing. And WHY is that image so big? Serves no purpose.
I do not see this problem you describe.   Not on any of three different browsers.

It happens on Firefox, Chrome, and Edge -- if I bump up the size (ctrl +) or if I narrow the width of the browser window. As soon as the line break in "Together we're growing an accurate single family tree using DNA and traditional genealogical sources." changes to be after "single" everything narrows and the search box drops below what is visible on my laptop screen. I think if my laptop was larger it would not be an issue. My laptop is not unusually small.

Yes, so as someone who has made quite a few websites, I feel it's the responsibility of the web designer to be sure the page works in all browsers, in all circumstances. It's not ok to tell your visitors "you are using the wrong browser" or "you shouldn't be viewing with such a large font size."
