Is anyone else having trouble zooming in on Ancestry sharing images?

Yesterday a G2G question included a free Ancestry image (sharing link). When I clicked on it, the "Zoom" button did not work. I've also tried other links including several of the links among the sources on this James Brown profile and can't get any of them to work either. Has anyone else had trouble?

I just checked--same issue and I am a subscriber.
I have gotten the impression that sharing images are deliberately handicapped without the same resolution as the ones I can see with my subscription.
Maybe so, but can you blame them?  There's no law that says they need to share anything.  And I'm pleasantly surprised that I can share as many newspapers.com clippings as I wish with with anyone (which I should be embarrassed to admit I just found out!).
That James Brown profile looks familiar.

Indeed.  I wanted to post the question, and I'd added more free Ancestry images to that profile than any other one that I could remember.

Ancestry fixed this bug yesterday or today. The zoom now works correctly.

Thank you.  I had tried one yesterday and noticed it still wasn't fixed.

Yes.  I have had the same issue the last few days on some of the images with sharing links (though not on ancestry.com itself).

I just tried on one of the profiles I manage. I have the same issue. (using Firefox under Linux).

It sounds like an Ancestry problem.

I rang Ancestry Support.  It took a while to get the support chappie to understand my issue, but then he said he was going to write up an Error Report and send it to the tech team, with wikitree.com's name in it.

I had to read out a sharing link, then he went to it and it wouldn't zoom for him, either.  So at least he knows it isn't just me.

A copy of my post on England Project Discord...
If anyone really needs to see the zoomed image for a sharing link there is a work around (not for the faint of heart!)... Taking the example above: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/sharing/26589397?h=7da3a4&utm_campaign=bandido-webparts&utm_source=post-share-modal&utm_medium=copy-url which can also be written like this: https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/26589397?h=7da3a4 Follow that link in Chrome. Then in Chrome use the View menu and do "View -> Developer -> Inspect Elements" (this might require turning on Developer mode in Chrome) Then click on the image element in the page. You should see something like this attached image.

Then right click on the blue highlighted lines on the right and do "Copy > Copy Element" Paste this into a scratch file. It should look like this: <img class="attachment-image" src="https://mediasvc.ancestry.co.uk/v2/image/namespaces/2352/media/rg14_05275_0007_03.jpg?securityToken=xwe9ed4a775c76d614b8592c4503628e21e9313f7a99db0000&amp;NamespaceId=2352&amp;Client=Share&amp;MaxWidth=450" width="450"> Then extract the URL and paste it into the URL bar. e.g: https://mediasvc.ancestry.co.uk/v2/image/namespaces/2352/media/rg14_05275_0007_03.jpg?securityToken=xwe9ed4a775c76d614b8592c4503628e21e9313f7a99db0000&amp;NamespaceId=2352&amp;Client=Share&amp;MaxWidth=450

I expect Ancestry will fix their code for sharing link pages soon (since several of us have reported the problem to them). But I'm not sure how often they update their code so it could take a few days.
Thank you.
  • This morning Monday 29th Nov Ancestry agent saying:

  • I can certainly replicate this issue from my end. When i click the zoom option, nothing happens. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I am going to escalate this with our systems team to get this fixed as soon as possible. As soon as this has been resolved, i will email you letting you know. Can i just confirm that this is happening on most of your shareable links too?

  • Yes and also my colleagues on the WikiTree site are all affected as well

  • Thank you for reporting this. I will file up a report now with our systems team and will be in touch in due course. Again, we appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

  • Thank you Edel , we brought this to Ancestry's attention last week but they didn't seem to understand the problem. Thank you for your time an assistance.

  • I'm sorry to hear that. No problem at all. Thank you for contacting Ancestry today. Take care.

I wonder if the various Ancestry reps that people have been talking to are communicating with each other.  I'd hope they have some central reporting system for glitches being worked on.

Today, 1st December 2021 I received the following email from Ancestry regarding the shared-link option that is failing to zoom on source records :

Dear Michael,

Thank you for contacting Ancestry in regards to reporting an issue on our site.

I am just following up with an email to inform you that the issue you reported has been escalated to our IT team and is under review. We hope to get this resolved very soon.

We want to again, thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Thank you for choosing Ancestry. We truly value your loyalty and appreciate you decided to explore your family history with us.

If you need additional assistance, reply to this email or feel free to contact us by phone at 0-800-783-1340 from 9 AM to 9 PM GMT, Monday through Friday or from 9 AM - 5:30 PM GMT, Saturday and Sunday. If you're calling from outside of the UK, please
