Wiliam Patten--PGM Project?

Hello,

I posted this to the profile page as well in order to involve the profile managers, but I wanted general advice as well. This is what I had posted on William Patten's profile:

"I'm still trying to grasp the different projects fully, and I don't know William's exact emigration date, but would this profile be a part of the Puritan Great Migration project?"

I've contributed to this profile in the past and this is also an ancestor of mine, so I wanted to see if we could get it categorized properly if applicable.

Hi Jayme!

The Puritan Great Migration period is generally considered to be 1620-1640; according to our project page, "some say 1650".

Is the 1654/5 date the earliest known evidence of William in New England? Based on that, we wouldn't apply the {{pgm}} template to him, although PGM's members and leaders will have lots of relevant research skills and can surely help you improve the profile. And in your research you may well find proof of an earlier presence in New England which would put him squarely into PGM.

It's my understanding that pre-1700 profiles that don't fall under a project can be coordinated through the Arborists.

Thanks! I'm going to work on his profile more tomorrow, and I have sources that put several of his children being born in the 1630s or 40s in Cambridge, Massachusetts that I want to flesh out.

Great! Take a look at PGM sources for other ideas.

If the sources for the births of his children pan out, be sure to add the information and citations to William's bio, and if they support adding the {{pgm}} template then go for it!

Cheryl, thanks for the great answer to Jayme's question.

While some have said "1650" is the cutoff; the PGM project is going with 1640. Perhaps we should remove the reference to 1650 in the revised project page that's coming. Thanks again.
Will do!
