is or was Chilcott a common surname around the Quantock Hills in Somerset?

I am intrigued that there were two people named Maria Chilcott (Chilcott-161 in 1829 and Chilcott-303 in 1831) born in a village named Holford two years apart yet they currently appear to be 36 degrees of separation, by a chain that seems to go to Australia and back twice.

Is it really likely that these two ladies had no blood relationship in Somerset or is there a small number of missing profiles to link them there?

There's a possibility they are closely related, as follows:

I see that on John Chilcott (Chilcott-162), the father of Chilcott-161, you have noted his parents as Benjamin and Ruth.

On Chilcott-391, the father of Chilcott-303, it says he was born on 21 July 1799 in Stringston. That matches the baptism date and place in https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/58182e80e93790eca39da5cd, which would make his parents Richard and Meriam.

Richard Chilcott married Myriam Jessop on 22 April 1798 in Stringston (https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/58186343e93790eb7fb4c2f8)

There was a Richard Chilcott baptised on 28 May 1769 in Stringston (https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/58182e80e93790eca39da48d) - his parents were Benjamin and Ruth.

There were a couple of other possible Richard Chilcott's baptised in Somerset, one in 1764 in Timberscombe (https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/58182d30e93790eca39b3a64) and one in 1780 in Dulverton (https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/58184d1ce93790eca3d79d3b), but the one in Stringston is perhaps the most likely.

There is only one marriage record on FreeReg for a Benjamin Chilcott marrying a Ruth in Somerset in the 1700's - Benjamin Chilcott married Ruth Cole on 25 June 1765 in Stringston (https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/58186343e93790eb7fb4c295). That marriage date would fit with them being the parents of both Richard in 1769 and your John in 1783.

If you search this site (English legal records) you will find quite many Chilcotts (or Chylcott) in Somerset going back to the 1500s and 1600s. For example in Stogumber and Lydeard St Lawrence, which are not far away.

There are few surviving Somerset wills, but there are a couple dozen PCC wills there for Chilcott:
