What does this footnote reference?

Reg. Doke, Norw. fol. 53.

This is driving me nuts... it appears under footnote 4 at British History Online at the following link:

https://www.british-history.ac.uk/topographical-hist-norfolk/vol9/pp316-327#fnn4

Thank you so much!!!

Hi Darrell: The footnote references a will filed at Norfolk England: Court of the Bishop of Norwich (Episcopal) Will Registry. Each registry volume is named for the first testator in the book. Specifically, Doke covers wills dtd from 1436-1444. "Reg. Doke, Norw. fol. 53" is the 53rd entry in the volume entitled 'Doke' containing wills registered in the Court of the Bishop of Norwich.

It's an ancient reference system - kinda puzzling, really, until one has to use it. But, there it is. I think Family Search has a full listing of the registry names if you ever run across it again, there are almost a hundred volumes, all named.

Cheers.

Yep, here is the Family Search Page on the topic with volume names: Link to volume names

THANK YOU!!! I always use the referenced footnotes for my profile work first if I can and this is a big help.
Unfortunately the online availability of the actual record is limited to the index because it is too early (1438) to be available even on FamilySearch.
