Before I upload, how will I know my tree isn't already on site?

I am not yet a member and  willing to share what I have but how can I check that the bulk of my information is new to your site?

I have a tree containing over 500 names and going back 1000 years in My Heritage, they produced the Gedcom for me. How do I reduce the list to the last 300 years?

I use MS Office 2000 xls and Open Office.

Removing part of the data from the Gedcom file itself is a lot of work if not impossible. I think it might be easier to import the file in another application which supports partial Gedcom exports. With Brothers Keepers you can for example only export parts of a tree.

We've set up our import system to exclude people born more than 400 years ago. So, even though they'll still be your file, when we do the processing on WikiTree it should filter out those born before 1612.

For more modern people, you could do a few spot checks to see if there will be a lot of duplication. As long as it's not hundreds of duplicates, you can do merges after they're imported.

can I ask why you don't allow inports from more than 400 years ago, but allow them to be added individually to our tree?
