So, basically, all the people who had planned on adding multiple generations of a family — as in past years — will get zero points if they add the grandparents and above, or extend sideways. Only if they add Jo Exwhyzed's spouse and their children, and Jo's parents. No point — team scoring-wise — in adding the spouse's parents, as they'd not count for points. (They'd grow the Tree, but the 'Thon is also about teams scoring points.) So, if Jo and spouse had two children, points would be : one for the spouse, one for each of the children, one for each of Jo's parents, and one for Jo's only sibling — six points in total. No points at all for the spouse of the sibling, or the spouses of the children, or any grandchildren, or parents-in-law, or siblings-in-law.
That will cause an awful lot of disjointed family additions -- a "cluster" here, another "cluster" there.
Good thing the Tortoises aren't all about getting points, or winning.
