Hi all!!!

Connect-a-Thons are usually one of the favorite of all the thons. 14 Jan 2022 starts our first Thon of the year! So glad to have you all with me.

Hello!!!!

As we start this first Thon of 2022, I just want to say thank you for being a Legacy Heir!!! Have fun with this one and remember, We take it at our own individual pace. If you like to love one profile all weekend, so be it! Make that the most beautiful profile you can. If you choose to do many profiles!!! That is great too!! Just make sure you have at least one good source. Even one contribution makes this amazing tree more beautiful, healthy and strong that it was before that contribution!!

Family, obligations and most importantly, YOU are more important than the thon! We love having you here, but if something comes up, elsewhere, take care of that first. You Rock Legacy Heirs, lets have some fun and connect some profiles!!

Space:WikiTree_Sourcer  this is the link for the add on. This is the page it will take you to. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:WikiTree_Sourcer   I love it!!! Give it a try.

As I said this is my first THON and I have been practicing with the Great tutorial so that I might efficiently add/source my profiles. But I have already run into a snag. When I try to hide the URL in my source citations using brackets as the tutorial instructs, it does not work...the URL is still visible. Maybe someone who is smarter than me, can look at one of the examples I did and let me know where I am making a mistake?

Thanks Lisa, and I just noticed that you accidentally added the 1920 census instead of the 1820 census to Nichols-18080. If you don't mind, I will delete a few of your additions.

In those particular copy-and-paste citations, they should be left as they are originally presented.

The same applies to the Find a Grave citation.  It should be left as it is, with the exception of adding the template (although you could remove the http://).

Find a Grave, database and images (www.findagrave.com/memorial/53599437/sylvester-nichols : accessed 23 December 2021), memorial page for Sylvester Nichols (1787–16 Sep 1838), {{FindAGrave|53599437}}, citing Groveport Cemetery, Groveport, Franklin County, Ohio, USA ; Maintained by Nancy Ann Mull Buchanan (contributor 47089671) .

.

Texting down other source urls would work as the video suggests.

It is your profile, please feel free to adjust it. I was just trying to help give you an idea of how it would look. I am so glad you are on this team and know you will rock when it comes time.
Thanks Lisa;

I just don't get it. I think you better remove me from your team. I have over 28,000 people in my database from over 40 years of genealogical research, but the "coding" is too much for me. I even tried getting the "app" or extension and that is not easy so far, I don't see a one in the upper right corner.

So please just take me off the team and I will continue imput my data/profiles, the sourcing just won't be as pretty.
Cindi - I think you're doing a good job so far, but you're also complicating things for yourself by trying to alter citations that are fine as they are.

Another major point is -- sourcing doesn't need to be "pretty".  It needs to be accurate.  Just add the sources you find, that apply to the person, and you'll be fine.
Cindi,

Melanie is right, just get some sort of citation. Letting others know where you found the info. Did you see on your page for him, where I put the 1920 United States Federal Census? As long as you put the location of the information you put down.

This team is very much one of the belief that everyone does what they can, and every one that you do, makes the tree happier, healthier and stronger. I do not want to take you off. Just do your best, it will count.
Another thing to remember is - a lot of this is stuff we've learnt over time.  Mostly by trial and error doing, asking for help (as you have done), or by copying what someone else has done.

(Some of my earliest profiles came to be because I copied what others did in profiles they manage, and adapted it to my person instead of theirs.  Then I started experimenting after finding and reading the help files.  Now there are apps, add-ons, and video helps.  How wonderful!)

Happy New Year to all of my fellow Legacy Heirs.

And to you!!!

Thanks for including me on the team!  I'm super excited - this is my first connect-a-thon and I have a notebook full of my ancestors' siblings and their spouses and children ready to connect in!

Hey all!  I have my list of peeps in my family that I want to add to Wiki-Tree this weekend.  Shared with my cousins whom I thought would maybe participate so we don't duplicate records.  I'm fired up and ready to go!  Pretty busy on Saturday but should be able to do a bunch tomorrow and Sunday.  Onward!

How do we add a new question  to this chat area?  I just hit 'answer this post' which seems wrong.

But here's my question - how do we see our progress on this connect-a-thon - our group and just ourself?
by Diane Scholten G2G6 Mach 1 (14.1k points)

From the email sent by Linda Silva on 1/13/22

"You can check on your own progress and your team’s progress using the links here. (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Connect-a-Thon#Current_scores_and_progress) "

Hope that answers your question. Lynda aka Vollmer-279

Hi Everyone,

I'm having a great time. I went down a long rabbit hole yesterday and didn't connect them with anybody. :(
by Elizabeth x G2G6 Mach 4 (48.7k points)

I just dug myself out of a rabbit hole of mugshots from my great-grandma's first cousin's many stints in California prisons... and wondering how that was received by the in-laws of their other first cousin who married into one of the most prominent and wealthy families in San Francisco! laugh

I am BACK again.......it's 7 degrees out here, ready to stay home and go down more rabbit holes.cool

My personal goal was to add at least 100.  Last night I was at 83 and too tired to continue.  I was also so focused I didn't really pay attention to when the thon ended, just started entering some VERY large families late this morning and told the dog I'd take him for a walk when my numbers hit 100.  After I was sure I'd added 2 dozen or more I looked at my numbers -- still only at 86.  I wondered what was wrong, until I discovered the "thon" ended hours ago... lol.  I had fun anyway, I can feel good that I did hit my personal goal and then some, even if it was late and didn't count.  But now, I need to apologize to my dog.

Hi - Yeah, a few years ago the Thons (in my Mountain Std. Time zone, USA) went from late Friday to late Monday but that changed (with increasing international-emphasis) and now the 3 days (in USA) are Friday, Saturday, Sunday and ending at 5 AM on Monday (MSTime).

Of course here at Legacy Heirs our "Goal" is to add and improve the overall Tree so it really does not matter how many profiles one adds, but their quality and helping fill-in family groups.  This is a great Team and THANK YOU to our "fearless leader" Lisa!!

This time I chose a 3rd great-grandfather Snow's line who were American pioneers starting in North Carolina with one branch ending in Washington state and others in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas - all before WW I.  We have a great resource in the 1850+ census records.
