Have place this Nicholas Smith as the husband of Catherine May which he is not.

How do I make this correction.   Need to get rid of this chap & replace with a new Nicholas Smith who was a UEL.

what's a UEL?
United Empire Loyalist
Lauraine, is it here that you have the trouble?

This appers to be all wrong??  Am unsure how to get it fixed.
UEL stands for United Empire Loyalist which you seem to know.  Posted his papers to his wife's page as still have not entered him.  His wife is the daughter of a well known UEL William May.

Sorry, but still do not know how to remove this chap from my group??  Please spell everything out for me - need expliciet instructions as not too hot on a computer.

You can disconnect that persons profile from your family by removing the connection between that profile and your ancestor and then enter a new profile using that connection for the proper person.  On every profile there is a tab for removing the father or mother and if you use that the profile will be disconnected.  You can then add the new person as either a child or parent to the profile that links to your line.  At that time you can abandon the old profile and it may link back to the tree sometime in the future.

To get back to Lauraine's original question...are we saying that Nicholas Smith who died in Carter County, Tennssee, is not the husband of Catherine May who was daughter of Wilhelm May? Here's how to fix that in detail:

  1. Start on Catherine May's profile at http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/May-3450
  2. Click the Edit tab.
  3. In the Spouses section on the right, click the link "[add/remove a spouse]"
  4. At the bottom of the page, click the radio button for Nicholas Smith and push the button for REMOVE AS SPOUSE OF CATHERINE SMITH.

That's it! Next on Catherine's profile you can add a spouse and create the loyalist Nicholas Smith from scratch if he doesn't already have a profile. If you're not sure about that, come on back and ask!

Lauraine, while looking for the errant Nicholas, I found a number of duplicate profiles in your family tree. Can we offer a hand with the merging process?

Another tangle to unravel are the profiles with ''Last Name at Birth'' set to "Albright,Allbright,Albrecht" such as Heinrich Albright,Allbright,Albrecht and his descendants starting at http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Albright,Allbright,Albrecht-2 It's best to select the most likely spelling variant at each person's birth and include the others in ''Other Last Names.''

Thank you.  Know I had some of the Smiths mixed up.  Hope they are more or less correct but seem to be having problems with Nichol Smith's profile - the one who went to the US.  His son Malcolm married a Barbara Youngclause & note I have his mother as one of his wifes??  Also think the same problem exists with Nicol Smith who was only married ONCE TO Marion Halcrow.  Not sure how this happened but there are so many Smith families just in my family that mix ups do occur - at least for me.

Will try to go in & correct the Albrecht/Albright/Allbright group.  The problem was he came to Canada as Albrecht which was changed to Albright & then by some in the family to Allbright.  Actually he was called Aubert in one file - very confusing.
